I used to work at Walmart (cue laugh track).

I had an old lady throw soup bones at me because there wasn't enough meat on them.

I had some migrant worker take a leak on our "fresh" seafood case.

One night when I was closing, a lady came up to me and demanded I make her six eggs. I think she confused me with a Denny's.

And the day where I finally said fuck this shit and left, some moron assistant manager decided to clear a delivery for 30 pallets of hams. There was absolutely no place to put them all so most of them were sitting in the hallway when I had left.

I usually just see if I have the right amount of items in the bag, past that, whatever I'm a big boy I can deal with a mistake. (obviously food allergies are a different case)

Week later I get a call, go in, store General Manager handles me, says he doesn't have any silver ones in that model, but wait, here is a silver one, high end model, worth almost 300$ more, with attachments. I look at him for a few seconds... then we walk up to the counter and he rings it up himself and walked me out of the store. I was shocked.
Wow, for Christmas a few years ago, I also got a Kitchenaid Mixer at Kohls for dramatically off book value. It was supposed to be $300 or $400, and they rung it up for $99 and I stacked another 20% off coupon on it. I wonder if the chain just coded it wrong in the system or something. My buying experience was in Delaware, near the PA border.

I hate drive-through windows. Fucking lazy assholes that can't get off their fat asses and walk into a store. I hate when some fat fucking bitch orders 70 fucking tacos for her fat fucking family while I'm trying to get 1 item to go at the counter. And then fuck that same fat bitch when she almost runs me over in her giant fucking SUV while I'm walking back to my car cus she's too busy counting her fucking tacos.

I wonder how much weight america would lose if you just got rid of every drive-through and made the fat fucks start walking the 15 ft to get their food.

And the best part is that if you don't go to the drive-through, you're wayyyy more likely not to get your order fucked up, because you can sit and watch them make it for you. Voila, problem solved.

I worked in a small restaurant for a while, and we really never have problems with customers. It's a bbq place, and it's a one-off, so no corporate bullshit to deal with. The owner/managers were cool, and if a customer gave us shit, they'd deal with it themselves. We really never had any problems though; I guess when the guy behind the counter is holding a giant meat cleaver (to chop the bbq fresh), people don't bitch too much.

My current job at my computer store doesn't get too many irritating customers, but I have noticed that certain nationalities will try to haggle with you over everything. They'll come in and drop a computer off, you'll write their price down on their check-in sheet, and they'll sign it. Then when they pick up, they'll go "is that the best price you can do?". Well yessir, it is, that's why I wrote it on the sheet 3 days ago when you dropped it off; here's your signature acknowledging it right here. "Well if this were my country it would have only cost me $15!!". The last guy that said that I told him I'd be happy to reinstall the virus so he could mail the damn thing back to his country to save a few bucks.

Wait, do you really walk into every fast food joint you stop at? That sounds like way too much effort!

I prefer drive-thru at SOME places. (in before no car joke, I go through on my bike) because at a few establishments, drive-thru is given preference. I'll be the only customer non drive-thru and 4 drive-thru people will get served before I do.

    Really?

Huh. I've never even considered that as a possibility. What kinds of reactions does that get?

Mixed reactions. Some don't care, some won't let me do it at all (even if the lobby is closed)

Put a card (playing/baseball/Magic/Pokemon) in your spokes. Then they will think you are riding a motorcycle.

I should try to walk through a drive through, and see what happens.

In general, no bikes because it's an insurance thing. You get hit by a car behind/in front of you and you likely have no insurance on a bicycle, the business is worried about getting tangled up in your legal and/or medical fees. If the thing you're going through doesn't have insurance on it, it's probably not allowed. Also, there are magnets in the ground under where you'd stop to order and by the window, and bicycles don't always trigger them to let the people inside know that there is someone there to order or pick something up. Then you have the problem of the car that's not going to run down the bike in front of them, attempting to order, while the bicyclist is dumb enough not to know why he's sitting at the menu board and no one is greeting him, which ends up backing up cars with nothing getting done.

However, in a few weeks I might be in a better position (i.e. won't have to care about keeping this shitty job), so maybe I'll just prepare everything for then.
Yeah in your situation, I would certainly wait until you find something better. I'm in a similar situation (the only college educated person), so trust me I feel your pain.

However, America needs all the jobs it can get, even though they are downright miserable, thankless jobs. It's a pretty piss-poor situation. I was lucky to find a job at a department store, even though retail is also like being forced to lick Satan's balls every day. I left that job to go back to school and I will never work customer service again if I can help it. But my stint as a sales clerk really opened my eyes to what it's like to be treated like shit and blamed for things that aren't your fault by customers, and I feel like it's made me a much better and more forgiving customer and taught me the bigger picture of the flow of consumerism.
My wife works in the "fashion" department at Meijer. Few weeks ago one of her coworkers found a shirt left in a dressing room with a white suprise in it. She too has had people try to price change or have others demand unreasonable things. Management though....story time!

On a Friday a kid in the stockroom was told to bring down a pallet of pool sanitizer. Some really smart guy put the pallet on top of a food pallet full of candy and what not. When attempting to bring down the pallet, a bunch of 1 gallon bottles fell of the pallet and landed on a pallet full of Skecher Shapeups shoes. My wife and 4 others were called into the back to clean it up. They weren't given any type of PPE(personal protection equipment). During the cleanup my wife and 2 others threw up. Her friends shoes were ruined. Her other coworkers jeans and shirt were ruined, and my wifes shirt she was wearing was ruined.

They complained to management about the puking and another said they had a really bad headache. They got told to shrug it off. The next day one worker called off, my wife said she felt sick but still went to work. While there, a worker that heard of the sitaution started barking to management about how they should contact the union, unsafe work conditions, etc. On Sunday, they finally sent everyone to the hospital to get checked out. My wife and her friend were given an inhaler to help with the chest pains from it.

Obsiously this is apples to oranges with restaurants, but when you get paid $8-9/hr and have to put up with so much shit, it's no wonder so many that work customer service jobs are angry.

This. You could shout into the speaker all you want on your bicycle, but we wouldn't even be able to hear you. I guess you could come up to the window and order, as long as you don't mind waiting an extra 3min or so if you get something that needs to be grilled/deep fried.

Also, people saying you're more likely to get your order right if you walk inside are right. During lunch rush we're not supposed to have any one car sitting at the window for more than 60 seconds...Guess how much that helps with accuracy? The trade-off is that you'll wait longer for your food if you come inside because:

Depending on how busy it is, we usually make 2 or 3 drive-thru orders for every 1 dining room order.

We've had people come through the drive-thru and order 100+ tacos. Just...why?

That goes beyond shitty retail job and way too far into the realm of dangerous. No one should ever have to endanger their life over a shit job like that. Even as much of a jackass as my store's manager was, I don't think he would have ever made us endanger our lives like that.

As for the white surprise...yeah...that happens. No cameras in changing rooms = free for all in some peoples' opinions. We used to have cushions in our fitting rooms and would regularly find piss on them (or so I heard from the people working in departments with fitting rooms).

Reminds me of one time, a grown man went into a children's fitting room (which happens sometimes but this guy had the full pedo look), when he came out security grabbed him. It turned out he had put on multiple little girl's panties and was attempting to leave the store with them under his pants. lolz

In regards to holding up a line to check your entire order? Yeah, obnoxious. Holding up a line to check one sandwich? Not the end of the world, cry moar, etc.
