In your/this scenario the real issue becomes is it still profitable to spend 3h a night at an NM without buyers lined up, is this a waste of our time etc. If you sold 3 a week at 10m (todays prices) then yes it's profitable, back then you'd prolly only need to sell one a week. If it was 100% drop...eh...maybe a lower price but again if you're killing the NM 20+/30 days a month and the other people who claim are early morning JP or LS's the price/business whatever doesn't really get effected.

Most shells sold items at around the same price even if they hated each other for this reason.

Well for one, I'm not arguing in favor of kings and I've already stated how stupid the whole system was. I'm just saying that your idea of oh well it's 100% so once we get ours people will stop camping and others can have it is silly because people who would rather make money camping whatever window this 100% item would have (SE, so it would be 21-24+) would do so and monopolize it. That's the game, that's life, etc. If I can make 30m+ a week doing something for 3h I am probably going to do it.

You said you'd camp shit for a possible 3 hours, and let it fall to the ground if someone didnt want to pay an absurd 10 mil for an E.Bd abju, that in this situation would be 100% drop. What would you do then, go and claim it the next 6 days, let it fall to the ground, and then on day 7, your potential buyer manages to claim it, and gets a drop. You then wasted a decent chunk of your free time, just to be a douchebag and go "PAY ME OR U DONT GET NYAH NYAH", which ultimately got rubbed in your face. You're not any richer, you got nothing for your time, and the other person kept their gil and got their abju.

Then next week I may have 5 buyers lined up, that's the way the cookie crumbles. Sometimes you go 0/50 on a synth, sometimes you go 5/5. If I gave that guy the abjuration and I didn't have a buyer the rest of the week then I still didn't make any money regardless of whether he claimed it day 7 or not. I did however maintain my price and buyers knew I didn't and wouldn't give a shit which means they either gave in and bought it or quit bothering altogether. Word got around, etcetc.

Is it nice/fair/whatever? Not at all, that was the problem with kings and the problem with Tanaka. They were either full of shit in their vision or they knew exactly what would happen and for the longest time the JP had an advantage as the only ones with claim bots that were worth a shit. Tanaka was fine with this, or full of shit. It doesn't mean I wouldn't want to sell those drops if I can monopolize it as a linkshell and get members paid or fund events/relic and whatnot.

Do you think I ever expected to get a Dring? No. It fell into my lap because I went to Kings, every single time I could, and eventually the stars had to align. I killed it enough for it to finally drop and all my effort was plainly quanitified by having the leading DKP.

To me it's like I buy into this version of the American dream in FFXI. It's not perfect, and you will get some scars along the way. But anything is possible. And that's what makes it worthwhile. To others, the dream is dead as soon as they have to compete against someone else.

If not for the fact your LS was one of the biggest botting shells on the server your american dream would of stayed that way. The only thing worse than a botter is a "legit" that rides the coat tails of botters and tries to take the moral high ground, in a legit shell you would of NEVER owned most of the gear you have from kings, the huge waiting lists, low claims (especially on HQ) and bad attendence of key jobs due to that low claim rate would of seen to that. No matter how many fucking times you turned up, you became "top tier" gear wise because of ls mates botting for you.

If Tanaka ever brings back HNM (which I honestly think he will) the rage will be fucking epic and the bot sellers are rubbing their hands together in anticiapation of how much money they will be making if he does.

Biggest problem with HNM was really that they became a)something that added prestige to your shell to claim(to the point of having kill numbers on their sites), b)a form of PVP to outclaim the shell you hated and c) an awesome means of selling gil. The fact the proper bots gave you a very high claim rate was the main problem here because it made all of the above possible and made people turn up in the first place.
