If not for the fact your LS was one of the biggest botting shells on the server your american dream would of stayed that way. The only thing worse than a botter is a "legit" that rides the coat tails of botters and tries to take the moral high ground, in a legit shell you would of NEVER owned most of the gear you have from kings, the huge waiting lists, low claims (especially on HQ) and bad attendence of key jobs due to that low claim rate would of seen to that. No matter how many fucking times you turned up, you became "top tier" gear wise because of ls mates botting for you.

If Tanaka ever brings back HNM (which I honestly think he will) the rage will be fucking epic and the bot sellers are rubbing their hands together in anticiapation of how much money they will be making if he does.

Biggest problem with HNM was really that they became a)something that added prestige to your shell to claim(to the point of having kill numbers on their sites), b)a form of PVP to outclaim the shell you hated and c) an awesome means of selling gil. The fact the proper bots gave you a very high claim rate was the main problem here because it made all of the above possible and made people turn up in the first place.

There is a simple way they could have made bots completely useless on kings.

Have the mob pop and stay "open" for a random duration of 1 to 3 seconds. During this time it can be attacked by anyone. Then claim is randomly given to one of the parties/alliances who attacked it (claim is determined by party/alliance not by individual so numbers aren't all that important). At this time a status is given to everyone in the alliance so that outside help is disallowed and nobody who was not already in the alliance when it was claimed may join it.

You still have to pay attention during it's window and be fast, but bots are completely useless because anyone who's paying attention has an equal chance at claiming it.

I camped kings for around 5 years plus post kings like Tiamat, Cerb, Khim and honestly, it was the worst thing ever. HNM should have never lasted as long as it did, I could understand this system early on when not many people were at the endgame level but when it exploded to 100's of people camping it needed to be done away with. I remember when Dragons Aery only had 2-3 shells at best when we first arrived on the camping scene on my server, by the time I had quit FFXI the first time we were seeing 150-200 people day 1 Fafnir's, shit was so retarded that a lot of us didn't even see him pop because of all the people there and the lag was on a besieged level.

The thing that bothered me the most was people who were most respected in the FFXI community at the time attended those FFXI events/conventions also bringing charts to Tanaka's face telling him how stupid the entire king system was and all they got was a laugh and "working as intended" answer. I also remember Bercus getting into a little shout match over how stupid AV was with Sage Sundi and Tanaka which lead to the "screening of questions" before they would allow people to interview them, I also remember when Tanaka would refuse to answer any questions about AV.

Even if bots wouldn't of existed with Kings and other HNM, the system would of still been equally as terrible with trying to compete vs 10+ other ls's at any given pop.
