Didnt we establish in this thread that an empyrian DOESNT take hundreds of hours? I understand buying things, but you're going to buy things just to do the event which drops things you want?

Zag's dog analogy makes perfect sense. Spending time and resources to get two dogs to have a puppy = farming up KIs and killing NMs for an empy weapon. It's time invested in getting what you really want, which is the puppy itself and the pleasure you'd get from playing with it (which in this analogy could be using your empy weapon to do other less-monotonous things such as new VNM content, helping friends, whatever).

Oh, and as for random Scrubs McScrubsy not being able to make good gil/hr? Any gimp, undergeared moron can join a cruor party and make 350-500k/hr turning cruor into gil, and that's on a single character, not a single char plus mule as people have been discussing. Double that value if you bring along a mule.

Nynja I've given up trying to explain the average joe to them, so just to humor them i went out and whored my self last night as a merc group:

Me my mule and my wife with her mule, I'll also throw in the prices I offered

Glavoid Shell = 600k
Chloris bud = 550k
Itz scale = 500k
Briareus helm = 400k
Carabosse gem = 200k
Sobek skin = 400k
CC lantern = 300k
ulhu fang = 400k

+2 item head = 180k
+2 item body = 200k
all other +2 item = 150k

I shouted during NA prime time, got a total of 5 tells, 1 dude just wanted cards the 2 other dudes said my +2 items were too expensive, another tell to tell me Carabosse gems were over priced and 1 funny dude who said "lolmerc groups suck I'd rather wait months to get my items than pay".

So i made 450k getting that dude his cards in the whole 30 min it took me, clearly the definition of Average Joe is not the same for all servers as we can see in my server.

So obviously the average gimp+undergeared moron that could join a cruor pt and make 350-500k/hr turning cruor into gil is not willing to spend all his hard earn gil. :/

Just to be clear, I was not arguing whether empy or relic is easier, as I have neither and it'd be stupid of me to enter that debate in such a position, but as someone who has just recently come back to the game after a seven year break, not long ago I was looking for ways to make gil as an undergeared gimp and found it stupidly easy nowadays. Did I use the gil I earned to buy merc services? No, but that is because I merely plan on farming aby gear with two other friends that recently came back as well and with our job combinations it'd be more cost effective for us to simply get the items ourselves as a general rule. The three of us are also looking at farming dyna currency, as the general consensus in the Neo-Dynamis thread here is that making ~200 singles per run with main + mule or ~300 with three people is quite normal.

You can't expect to shout for one day and get tells from people wanting to buy items. Set up a Bazaar somewhere where people can see it and actually look at when they want to buy things(such as ffxiah), wait a few days, and you will have to turn down some offers cause you have too many. People have been doing this for so long, and it works like that in real life as well with various products. You want to advertise what you are selling more than just for a short period of time, even when you aren't available some of the time.

If you want to shout you completely miss my point. The majority of people shouting to sell items(at least on Valefor) are incompetent retards, and people know who those are in general unless said people are new to the server. If you know the majority of the shouts are made by retards, you ignore them after a while and go to LS websites/Guildwork/FFXIAH to check bazaars, and then contact the people directly. This of course only goes for ra/ex items, not for shit like Grim Cuirass that can be AHd anyway.

Edit: Your prices are ok I guess, some of them could be a little cheaper since the effort it takes to farm them is relatively low(such as Bri Helms).

It's not about having not enough time to play it's about not having enough time to play everything in the game. The average person just can't do all the events. But at the same time they want to play certain jobs or get certain gear from most of those. This allows them to do that. Why play a game to do something you don't want to that seems like a chore for you? That's not playing that's working really. And when a game feels like work people often stop playing

I'd say good servers provide a variety of methods to achieve what you want in the game. Some people want the satisfaction of personally collecting all their gear, others would rather pick and choose which they farm and which they buy and spend their time doing other things they enjoy. Are you saying having the option of doing something multiple ways is a bad thing in a game provided for the sole purpose of player enjoyment?

Also, there's plenty of space in between "having time to do everything in an MMO" and just 5 hours a week. Plenty of people primarily play on weekends, which is fine for enjoying parts of the game at a more leisurely pace, but not necessarily enough to do everything. And if they only have maybe 2 hours during a weekday while they study or something and can't really focus, they can use that time to fish or cruor PT or something to make gil so that they can spend all their time on the weekend doing stuff for fun instead of grinding through a bunch of tedium.
