That's incentive? Wow... Salv masochists do still exist.

I didn't actually read your second paragraph before responding to the first one, so let me just add this: combining both systems means twice as many items generated, means both drop rate and points needed have to be balanced according to that fact. With Salvage's already low drop rates, yeah, I can't say I'd be a fan of that 'adjustment'.
I'm sure they can figure out some balance, but the key to this balance is when they expect to get new content out with better gear. If they manage to pinpoint that, it is easy to set up which amount of points and/or droprate you want players to get. SE has already done this with events before as we all know, they just don't want us to know what the exact values are.

People are also a lot more willing to give up when they realize the amount of work needed to get there, with no way of getting anything beforehand. The simple realization that you will be there for ages to come and nothing will change that is going to fuck some minds up. Having the carrot be an incentive for each run helps a ton.
Again up to balance. With low droprates, like Salv had, it was far more easy to go 1/200 on a drop than 1/1 or any other 2 digit number that would make it look "not so bad". The fact it is hanging there, yet no other method of obtaining it except SE's random number game? Makes people sick of the carrot.

As for your system having a 'problem', they can control the X however they please, just like the drop rates. If they don't want to add new stuff they'll just adjust the X/drop rates accordingly.
Can only go down in terms of numbers or up in terms of droprate. I don't think the playerbase will like it if patch notes read: "the droprate is now more shitty in event A" or "you now need 300k more points for item X". So once they figure out when they want to add a new event with superior gear (event itself can be as low cost as they want, re-use zones w/e) they can put in those numbers so players are busy until the new content is ready for launch.

SE wonders why people don't trust them anymore or why players have little confidence in them because as soon as it looks like they're righting the ship by adding great content they do something stupid by giving a very lackluster patch thats full of half-assed stuff like +3 magian weapons with the Tanaka stamp all over it.

I've seen some half-assed shit in my time especially from Blizzard lately but man that last patch for XI took the cake.

This last patch was made by Tanaka? That would explain a lot. Magians and shit went from "fun things you can do with friends at a reasonable pace" to "fuck this shit with a thousand dicks".

Also, fuck Tanaka. He is the living embodiment of the JP mentality of "We are right and no matter what it is impossible for us to be wrong".

Yes. Either way the game would fuck you in the ass.

I'm sure they can figure out some balance, but the key to this balance is when they expect to get new content out with better gear. Why are you ignoring what I am saying? Finding balance isn't hard. I told you why this balance would leave you with a shitter situation than what you had before. Is this hard to understand for some reason? Twice the methods to obtain gear - half the drop rate AND twice the points needed, more or less. Your system would be shit.

If the drop rate is 2%, which could be close to the truth, but probably slightly underestimated. Anyway, you'd average on 1/50 per drop. Thus going 1/100 is just as likely as going 1/1. Now let's add point system to the mix. Every 50 kills you get one drop, and every time you kill the boss you have a 2% chance of drop. Except it wouldn't work that way, because the drop rate would be essentially doubled. To keep the ratio same, we drop the RNG to 1% and make you grind the boss 100 times instead. Now it's more like it. Now, why do you ignore what I am saying? Because you can't deny what I am saying. Balance is easy, making shit not fuck you in the ear sideways while keeping longevity with a skeleton team is not.

Can only go down in terms of numbers or up in terms of droprate. They tend to have shit planned out 2 years beforehand. Not a stretch to have the plans for slightly longer if situation demands it.

But you touched on a great point there! They only have one chance to get it right. If they put the drop rates 'too high' (according to their schedule), they can't lower it anymore. But if it's too low? You raise that shit.

You really didn't do anything to address the points I was making. You just ignored them. Way to go.

can someone please shut hyan down and push him back over to the FFXIV forums where he belongs? ¬.¬ Its a lost cause with him
The hivemind really is strong with this one. You are all wrong, and you have done nothing to address the fact- because there's nothing you could say to address the fact.

So easier is to just go "hurdurr he's a lost cause ignore him" like the morons you are.

I think its more a case that SE is going back to the status quo with regards to version updates cause the last two patches look very much like the stuff we were getting pre-Abyssea.

The harder mobs are appreciated but it's pretty clear SE doesn't know what balance is (fits between Oprah brews and strong mobs with ass for drops) and they arent gonna expand this game once the 99 patch hits. Unless they devote more resources to FFXI, they have to continue adding random drops of shit because otherwise people would blow through content and quit paying for subs and we know SE wont be doing that cause well... they have all hands on deck working on another MMO.

XIV will be forced down our throats whether we like it or not. Resistance is futile.

Out of morbid curiosity, do you think it would be reasonable to abolish currency in dynamis and replace them with completed relic weapons with a 1/17500 drop rate? Would that drive people to do it more often thinking "this is the run I get an Apoc!" or make more of them say "fuck it, I'm not walking out empty handed (or with bst feet) for the 300th time"?

I don't even know how to make that comparable.

Since you can trade currency between players, there would have to be a different system. You also don't have to be -there- for each currency drop.

    ???

I'm not ignoring what you said. What you say is already a given that you seem to need spelled out for you. Of course if the point system is implemented along side the droprate it would increase the points needed and lower the droprate. Thank you captain obvious. I understand the crap that SE wants X amount of gear A or B floating in game, duh-the fuckin-duh. This would still not make the system worse than the RNG, because it actually leaves you with 2 options to get it, one is a certainty, the other a gamble. Which add up to the same shit it does now, at least with this system I know I'm not empty handed after going for 200 turtles.

Now, why do you ignore what I am saying? Because you can't deny what I am saying. Balance is easy, making shit not fuck you in the ear sideways while keeping longevity with a skeleton team is not.
I am not denying anything. Considering you already said this:
Yes. Either way the game would fuck you in the ass.
RNG is fuckin in the ass and having any stupid amount of grinding to get x amount of points is fuckin in the ass. You wanted alternatives which provided longevity and could be considered "better" than the current RNG. I offered one that I considered better. That you don't agree, fine, but it still is something that is as easy to implement as the random number game and actually gives some certainty you will get shit done in the end.

You really didn't do anything to address the points I was making. You just ignored them. Way to go.
Did I ignore shit again or do I need to spell out more for you? To make it clear once again: you wanted alternatives. I provided one, which is easily feesible for a skeleton team. That you don't like it, fine, no need to say I'm denying or ignoring shit.

actually gives some certainty you will get shit done in the end.
You really need to have some sort of a mental problem to go in with the mindset that you are going to win in the reverse lottery that is RNG so badly that you need to have the feeling that there will be a certain light at the end of the tunnel, no matter how moronically and ridiculously far that light may be.

Now if you were the one getting the short stick which sounds plausible considering you keep mentioning the magical number 200, congrats but I don't give a fuck and certainly would not want this shit forced down my throat because of you. You are a freak of nature and I'll take my 1/1 "chance" over yours because there's no way it would ever happen to me. Just like I will never win in the lottery.

I didn't want alternatives, I wanted alternatives that were BETTER. This is you being butthurt for reasons which 0,0001% of us can relate with. And then there's another bunch of you who are like hell no mate, 1/1 on this bitch.

Unless you never went 0/200 on anything in which case, ignore the last few sentences.

It's so amazing that you actually are in favor of this mother of all shitty systems. At first I thought "noo, he's just ignoring me" but goddayum. This is the perfect system for people who either feel like they always get the short stick (or they're just cynical dicks) or find pleasure in knowing that the pain will end. Maybe not in my lifetime, but my grandson will surely finish the battle.

yeah well he's technically correct: he has a 1% chance of going 1/1...

The chance, per run, is the same. However, it is false to suggest 1/1 is as likely as 1/100 since the (X/100) implies multiple runs.

He only has the same odds of going 1/1 and 1/100 if you assume he goes 0/99 before the 1/100 case. Otherwise he's just totally wrong.

So surprised Tanaka didn't throw a fit at all the Dynamis currency going out so far since patch and roll it back by 80% and make white staggers .2%

Yeah, so about that. Apparently there's a post on the JP forums where they mention that the dynamis currency supply was increased past their expectations and they're considering adjusting it. Nerf inc.
