Leafland News:

-Due to Gustavsson's emergence from the Bruins asshole, to back-to-back .91%-or-better games, Wilson will likely give Gus the start tomorrow against Ottawa. It's good to see someone who gets routinely trashed in this city silencing critics. Same with Komisarek

-Speaking of Wilson and silencing critics, the Pens game was the most complete effort by the Leafs thus far, and not just because the lines and goalie were clicking. 17 out of the 18 Leafs that took the ice have over 10min ice time.

What kind of time wizardry is this? Only Matt Frattin had sub-10m, at 9:48. It's paying off in spades - the Leafs have looked fresher in the 3rd the last two games, and in a back-to-back situation going to Ottawa, every minute is going to count.

The Leafs powerplay was 2/3 on the night and has been noticeably modified. It's an umbrella form now, with Phaneuf the lone ranger up top and two forwards stack the middle - one in front, and one at the hashmarks. It's tons of traffic, and paid off on Grabovski's opening marker.

People shit on Wilson for being a terrible coach (myself included), but props must be given where/when it's due. We're all juuuust a bit fresher than normal after such a tense game, and the PP change paid off tonight.

Ryan Smyth is playing awesome so far this season! 11gp, 5g and 5a. Granted you can measure all his goals combined on a yardstick, but still.
Got the kids to get the flashy goals and make the other team take hooking/tripping calls, and have Smyth/Jones to get in front of the net for the garbage goals, that at the end of the day mean as much as a 2-on-1 highlight reel goal.

$4.75m for him is a great price if he plays up to the level he is capable of. Unfortunately it will probably only turn out to be average due to him getting injured/being dumb/not having Nick Lidstrom taking harder defensive assignments coming pretty soon.
