Out of any player in the league that I actually feel bad for about his team's play, it's Rick Nash. Dude single handily tries to carry the team each and every year and gives it 100% each game, only to have the team quit on him. This year, with all the moves they made off-season, I thought they might finally do something and give the Hawks or Wings a run for their money in the Central but, yeah no, not happening.

I agree. Jets are sorta in the same boat, and I'm expecting a number of changes by Chevy for next year. But first and foremost, they need a new goalie (Jackets I mean).

I, on a personal note, would love to see Nash, Kane and Burmistrov on the same line....give him to us for cheap!

Nash doesn't give 100% every game, and hasn't for a long time. He'll turn it up for awhile then settle back down into an easier groove. He's been going along off reputation for awhile now, which is why it's best to trade him now while his value is still high. Not every team considered a potential buyer has the cap space for him seeing as we'd want a first and a blue or near blue chipper for him, rather than higher salary roster players, which the buyers wouldn't be able to give up their better ones anyway since they're going for a cup.

The issue with trading Nash is that he is the only player that brings that sense of star power to the team. For a team that's struggling with it's identity and support of the city, starting over would be hugely detrimental to their continued existence in Columbus. Quality defensemen hit the free agent market regularly, the same really can't be said for high end goalies. Take the hit for one season and attempt to make a splash in free agency. Look at the names that are going to coming up this offseason as UFA's.

    John-Michael Liles
    Dennis Wideman
    Brad Stuart
    Johnny Oduya
    Ryan Fucking Suter
    Willie Mitchell
    Matt Carle
    Brayden Coburn
    Tim Gleason
    Matt Gilroy
    Kurtis Foster

Tyutin is replaceable, possibly as early as this offseason. Nash is not.

If you look at his stats, they are pretty much the same every year. Not disagreeing with what you're saying since you get to watch the guy play. I'm just saying if he's able to produce this consistently without giving 100% every game if he did give 100% he would break some records.

Don't forget Shea Weber is going to be a FA as well. Only problem I see for Columbus trying to get a top end defenseman is they are going to have pay above and beyond market value to get them to come to Columbus.

Also Kashka love having you here as our resident Columbus fan, please post moar.

We made a splash in free agency roughly 100 days ago.

Nash may be the face of the franchise, but that just makes him the poster boy of losing. A number of those free agents will be re-upped before hitting FA, and there usually aren't very many good ones at that point. Don't forget that Columbus isn't the most attractive FA destination either, and that the team as it is constructed right now doesn't have that much salary cap space left either. The fans are already leaving, so it's not like Nash is a money maker for the franchise in terms of higher attendance.

The way I see it, the longer we keep this dysfunctional team together the longer a recovery has to be waited for. One player won't bring the fans back but an actual team might.

Which is a fantastic point. The way I see the Jackets though is they are one solid defenseman and one good goalie away from being a solid playoff potential team. In fairness to Columbus we also haven't exactly seen the potential of the Nash/Carter line. I'm not saying that it will fix everything that's wrong, but it could go a long way towards providing the team with some confidence.
