ESPN people, I changed around the Category point values a little. Made Goalie losses worth an extra point (from negative 2 to negative 3) because Goalies getting lit up and losing still were posting positive point values, which isn't what I intended. I lowered FOs won and FOs lost to .2 and -.2 instead of .5 because it was giving Centers too much value, 4 FOs didn't = an Assist to me. Finally to balance I upped Blocks and Hits from .2 to .5 value.

A lot of people have Anaheim making it and some have them actually going deep but out side of their top line, I think they are thin on offense (case can be made for Selanne but hes production can drop) and their defense is still weak to me. Hiller will have to stand on his head to get them in imo. Visnovsky usually follows up a strong year with a weak one so that will hurt them as well.

Thats the best line in the whole league though... that line will easily score 100-125 goals and thats not even factoring in what they'll do to opponents bodies with their physical play. Not to say their combined talents are better than the combined talents of the Pens' 87/71/11, cause they're not, but I'd take Anaheim's 1st line over Sid/Malkin/Staal as a unit if I needed a goal to tie a game with 1 minute left and could pick whatever 3 players from 1 team that I wanted.

Can't be too mad at tonight's game, Hawks had a billion chances and just didn't finish. Crawford and Lehtonen both played lights out. Hossa looked beast, Leddy played great, Kane was fine at center. When they loaded up the big guns for Kane/Toews/Sharp at the end the line looked awesome. Toews was pretty shaky most the game, but think it was a good game overall. I think the Hawks will bounce back and take tomorrow, they always lose opening night anyways.

Sharpie rocketing into Lehtonen was awesome, Hossa going one-on-four and STILL getting a chance at a rebound he himself caused, Kaner being focused... Yeah, I wasn't med. Not sure about Brandon Saad yet, he is no Ben Smith. Jamal Mayers looks like he knows which end of the stick is up, and Montador did not impress.

Honestly, with the west teams 6-12 will prob be separated but like, 5 or 6 fucking points.

You're looking at 5 teams that should be a lock (Van, SJ, CHI, DET, LA), and then a cluster fuck of teams that are all good enough to make it battling for 3 spots (NSH, STL, ANA, CGY, MIN, DAL) and then teams that almost have no chance but will still be competitive (CJ, COL, EDM, PHX)

Its going to be close so really, picking any of those 6 teams to make it isnt so much of a shock and seeing any of them drop out wont be either. Personally, I have NSH, STL and CGY making it.

I for reals got CBJs in the playoffs this year. For that matter I predict the entire central is going, lol.

Unknown atm, depends how Stalberg heals up for the most part. I think he'll get sent down after 9, but he is playing on the first line atm.

This is for sure. Pens top line has more skill, but the difference is versatility. That line can dangle you to death(same goes for Sedin line), but they can't beat you up, while the Anaheim top line can play a skill game, or just bust you the hell up on the forecheck and muscle shit to the net.

Not sold on CBJ yet. But the Jeff Carter should help a lot. Dude won 24 of 31 faceoffs yesterday. I get the feeling Steve Mason was pushed into the NHL too soon, but then what did CBJ have otherwise?

Rick Nash & Jeff Carter will be crazy to watch. Most improved in the west, but how deep were they in the shittier is the question.

Carter and Nash looked good yesterday, all the junk about having two scorers on a line doesn't seem to apply since they just both shoot then use their size to target the rebounds. Prospal between them seems to be a great glue too, he set both up really nice yesterday.

As for Mason, the problem there is the defense in front of him just isn't very good. As a result he tries to do too much some times and gets out of position or lets in a softy, and it takes the wind out of the whole team including him. Hopefully with Wisniewski back we'll be seeing the puck more in the other end of the ice, and the increased goals along with full time goalie coach support will help alleviate the pressure on Mase to let him back into form. He looked great in the preseason this year, while in the crappy years he performed poorly even there.
