I know im way late to the convo, but back then, Montreal largely won because they were allowed to sign local players before any other team. Being able to always draft and sign the best players before anyone else, usually gives you a pretty big advantage.

Ironically, this is now montreal's demise because local media cares about having a french coach, french players, french captain (they alienated Koivu because he couldnt speak french and actually gave him shit for it...Gionta was "recommended" to learn french as well), french arena, french everything...and they're still living in this 1950 idea that all the good players are french...when in actuality its just that the best goaltenders are french.

Can say what you want, but the included video (And just for comparison, here’s another three-game suspension – for André Deveaux’s hit on Thomas Fleishmann) was also 3 games...a direct obvious elbow to the head compared to pacioretty's hit. cmoooooooon.

Quick is a beast as well and I think one of the top 5 goalies in the league so far this year. Even with our loses, you can't blame Quick on those.

Winning this game was important for us after blowing a 2 goal lead 2 games ago to Dallas. Had to hang on to this one.

Going into tonight, I really felt this was a must win for the Kings early in the season and hopefully to get them on a winning track.
