all missed time this season from concussions (and thats just off the top of my head). This is getting ridiculous. Season isn't half over.

Adding Steve Mason and Tyler Kennedy to the list, forgot both of them prior. Anyone else feel free to add to the list, you know your teams better than me. Probably going to get a good list going and include it on an email to John Buccigross addressing concussion concerns. Odd that fighting being the root of hockey problems is touted by non-hockey media - only Jay Beagle is on that list as a result of fighting IIRC.

Kind of amazed that more Canucks haven't been concussed. Maybe diving is a good preventative measure against concussions.

So last year, the at-the-time leading scorer went down with a concussion and is STILL struggling to get over it and this year's leading scorer is now out with one indefinitely too. Not good for the league or its fans.

Radek Martinek is out because of a concussion. He's had two in the space of 6 months, although one was at the world tournament, not the nhl.

I think Concussions are so much higher in number now because people are so much more aware/concerned about them than ever before. Of Kariya got taken out by Scott Stevens this year as massively as he did way back when, there's absolutely no chance in hell that he'd have returned to the ice like he did. Pre-lockout hockey was a much tougher and slower game compared to now, so getting a big hit and coming back to the game shortly after wasn't really unheard of at all. Now-a-days, you get hit big, you have to spend time in the "quiet room" or whatever it's called each and every time as a precaution, and less and less players are risking coming back from a concussion early too.

Albeit, one could also argue that because the game has gotten so much faster than it was in the 90's and early 2000's, players are running into each other at full speed which just rocks and jolts the body/head more. Where as before, you could hook, slash and interfere with a guy and not get called for a minor penalty unless it was excessively over the top.
