So DiPietro is hit with a puck in the helmet and may have injured his face again.

Brian Rolston's shot caught Rick DiPietro "in the crosshairs," as Jack Capuano put it, right near the temple, and damaged DiPietro's throwback cage goaltender's mask while also sending him off the Nassau Coliseum ice early during today's practice.

DiPietro was unavailable for comment afterwards and will be evaluated by a doctor later today. He hasn't played a game yet this season and missed six weeks last year with facial fractures that required surgery and a plate in his cheek, as well as the old-style mask to keep pucks from getting near his face.

"He seemed to be doing all right," Capuano said.

The Islanders host the Lightning on Thursday. Al Montoya has played the first two games, going 1-1-0 with a 1.53 GAA and .940 save percentage, so he might have been in line for a third consecutive start on Thursday regardless. Evgeni Nabokov has yet to dress in either game, with DiPietro serving as the backup.

If DiPietro has to miss any time, the Islanders do have the luxury of a third goaltender to work in.

"I don't really think about it like that," Capuano said. "You never want to see anyone hurt like that."

DiPietro is never going to play a full season.

So the Wings might be moving to the Southeast when conference realignment talks are finalized in (supposedly) December. Of course meaning it would start next season, but it's an interesting choice. Trips to Florida several times a year isn't great travel-wise, but it would eliminate a lot Western Canada/US road trips. Winnipeg would be put into the Central.

I read Bob McKenzie's article on TSN about that and I thought it was sort of interesting, very well laid out but each option he presented really has some flaw with it that some team will find issue with. I personally think that Detroit is staying in the West and Columbus will be moved to the Southeast or Atlantic and Winnipeg added to the Central...but there is also a strong case for moving Detroit to the Northeast.

I guess I am also being part selfish and don't want to see the Chicago-Detroit rivalry die out, though they could still schedule extra games a year against them if need be, it'd just lose something not being a divisional game.

I'm split with Detroit moving. I don't want to lose DET vs CHI, but since i live on the east coast i could see so many more games...

Also career 300 points in 800 games, not exactly primed to keep up scoring pace. Same deal with Jason Chimera in DC, career grinder. Just more of an impact on the ice than on a fantasy roster. If I thought Cooke, Carcillo, Avery etc. would help me win, I'd sign them all.

If he actually fought more he'd be a good pickup, Avery and Downie were actually really solid choices before as they had a pretty good mix of points and PIMs
