There are so many huge, long obituaries out for Jobs, and not a single one has even a single word about philanthropy.

Oh wait, that's because he never publicly gave a dime to any philanthropic causes (including cancer research... go figure), terminated corporate philanthropy at Apple because they "couldn't afford it" (even though they're now the most liquid company in the world), and might be one of the few multi-billionaires alive who can equal Larry Ellison on the selfish douche scale.

Props to Steve for the things he got right, anti-props to the huge army of people who think he was an inventor instead of a brilliant marketer who was excellent at taking the ideas of others and making a boatload of money off them. Modern Thomas Edison has been said already, but it's such an apt description of his MO.

I am kind of amused that Bill Gates was always the "bad guy" and Steve Jobs was always the "good guy" at least until BG stepped down from running Microsoft. Of course, he's already given more to philanthropic causes than Steve Jobs earned in his entire lifetime.

I really am not a huge fan of Jobs. I hate apple products. But I really don't get why everyone thinks its a must that you have to give money to charity or you're an awful human being. You give to charity if you want to. If you don't, I'm not gonna hold anything against you just for that fact.
