Oh god, the fail pickups become so much worse once you've "clicked" with the fight and know what you're doing.

I've been there for quite some time I avoid absolutely everything as I watch half my group get slammed by stupid shit like jump -_-

Edit: What I hate is the people that are in these groups I join who get hit by just about every single fucking ability Ifrit does. Are wearing stupid shit like crafting belts and no accessories, with absolutely no materia on any gear at all, that are standing around wearing ifrit weapons. It makes me cry and just want to know how the fuck did they ever even win the fight.

...But when you get 66 wins under your belt and have watched everyone around you besides yourself getting multiple drops... it gets extremey disheartening.

Then it's rage inducing when you get dupe after dupe of crap you can't use.

Yeah. I got 5 canes and 3 cudgels before my first melee weapon...which was for PGL. Then another 80 kills for Axe.

Between Ifrits, my LS plays "Find the gimpest person!". It's a little mean, but god the stuff like you mentioned is ridiculous. I know the game's in a constant state of change, and doing stuff like spending a ton of money to double slot everything is probably a little foolish, but god at least buy gear with the correct stats and put on one materia. My second character is a 50 Armorer, and I have to practically give away R50 stuff for it to sell sometimes, so there's no way it's too expensive. It's just people not giving a shit. I'm not saying we're the best, and we do have the odd wipe/close call sometimes when we bring one too many new people or people without the best jobs/subs, but come on there's a certain level of effort...

The best though, is the Lancers using HP gear/materia and Defender. It's like they've given up and are just admitting they suck.

And I think our worst luck is someone who went 1/42. Someone else was up to about 100 wins with only Bow and CNJ staff, then they got most of the other weapons within a couple of days. Then there's people like me and a couple others who are 7/7 in 120ish wins. 0/66 is crazy, I'd be about ready to rage quit with that luck, props to Mioko for hanging in there. It's just completely random, and until they add the tradable item it's sadly something you just have to hang in there and deal with. ;;

What are you tanks doing to bring Ifrit back into position after Hellfire? I have never tanked him but I have a general idea of how it works for most of the fight, except the last handful of runs our (random) tanks have had some issues with positioning after he comes down from Hellfire. If he jumps, we're good, but if he refuses to jump, we end up with some really shitty plume patterns.

Staying in the normal spot seems to bring him sideways with his ass towards the right mage (assuming 2 mages).
Running out to meet him in the middle seems to make him use a TP move sooner and in the middle of the arena.

Do you go like halfway out and guide him back in?

I never run to the middle I just run to the right a bit and don't have any problems. Be careful not to go too far right or you'll have the same problem with him pathing back too far right.

Positioning is definitely the trickiest part of tanking Ifrit.

I have friends that are getting level 50, and we got Cassie sentinel last night so she can play cnj when we go, think I'll finally be able to get a static going to do the fight and start getting more wins! Then I can come in and bitch about drop rates with you guys

7 blade, 5 (possibly 6) h2h, 3 axe, 3 cudgel, 2 bow, 1 (maybe 2) cane. 0 harpoon. I'm over the 100 mark now, but I stopped counting. :/ For a while I went with only blade and h2h which I can't use.. around the 60 kills area.. then I got a cudgel. -_- I'll explain the irony now.. the only weapon I really want from this fight is the harpoon. The axe is a far distant second. Full of fail SE..

Or using gear with HP over other useful stats, such as Cobalt Vambraces over Mitt Gauntlets, Coif over Elmo or Sipahi Turban (this one isn't so bad since the Coif at least has attack on it), and so on.

Funny enough, I just checked somebody in my current ifrit group who is wearing ifrit's harpoon, just about all of their gear has hp materia on it, body included.

I think I've got something ridiculous like 4 harpoons, 4 blades, 4 axes, 3 or 4 h2h, a few bows, 2 cudgel and one cane. I finally finished up 7/7 tonight although I honestly didn't want the cane or cudgel but other people still needed drops so it was some goal at least. I'm not sure on the win to drop count ratio, but I probably have around 75 wins I'd guesstimate.

On another point I have HP materia on my body, but the logic behind it was because I didn't have Sentinel for like 80% of my Ifrit kills so I was trying to get more HP. I really do need to get a Savage Might now that I got Sentinel, but honestly I don't want to drop like 3-4mil on a good one at this point when they will probably just make a better materia/piece of gear to put it on in 1.20. Still waiting on that gear check type of fight I guess, at this points it seems like stats do just as little as they ever did.

Currently at 6/7 with a estimate of around 80 wins and one guy in my LS has the same amount more or less and is sitting at 1/7 :/

Anyway the tanking position on ifrit can be annoying but what i generally do is move to the right just before the crack and move out very slightly then after hellfire i wait for him to move then move left and back to outer circle that way i generally can keep him in the same position and plumes are not as random.

there is a video of it here but its a dated video now and he jumps but it still kinda shows the position just need to move more right then this but still a ok guideline if you are unsure.

This might not be conclusive but i've only gotten drops during new moon phase any other moon, all i've gotten were DMs. Anyone have the same experience with me?
