Actually, on second thought, I still say a JP will because all top US players will be focusing on SFxTK and UMVC3 is my guess.

America takes SFxTK / UMVC3 easy.

Daigo can beat 99% of the population playing Ryu based on fundamentals alone. The only people he loses to are the top top and I'd take his Ryu over any of his secondaries regardless of matchup.

This year is gonna be tough for Japan for EVO however. What with all of those Korean and Middle Eastern killers popping up and NA Wipers still being borderline broken.

SFxT has the potential to be more hype than SSF4 and UMvC3 for some reason.

No arcade version is definitely a problem, given Japan's culture. Also EVO is going to be 3-4 months into release, I don't know how good the game play would be at that point.

It's going to be hard to beat the hype for UMVC3 and SSF4AE.

yeah, i agree

last year people were speculating saying the main events are going to start being marvel, but i dont know how much it compares to SF these days. is SF still the #1 spot like MVC2 was in like 2004?

Wednesday Night Fights alone has about 20% more people entering for Marvel than Street Fighter on a regular basis. SCR gave the #1 spot to UMVC3 because more people entered that and those brackets took much longer to end. I don't know what it's like at other events though.

Well the way I see it (and most of you guys see it as well consciously or unconsciously) SSF4 is only super hype when it becomes a US vs Japan vs The World type of deal, which happens every EVO to some degree (with last year being the most hype). Apart from that, it's not really hype at all, and more of a boring scene outside of underplayed characters being used (Gen, Guy, Elf, Balrog Dudley, etc). You know, also fun to root for our Wipers.

If the way SFxT is turning out to be a mix of 3S and Alpha 2/3 fundamentals, I can't see that game not being as hype as SSF4 or Marvel at least, considering both older games in their prime (3S, Alpha) garnered a good deal of popularity.

And we all know Marvel is self contained hype within North America. That's "our" game, lol.

Winter Brawl had UMVC3 as the main game as well, and looking at Final Round schedule UMVC3 is also the main event.

Edit: and Sho is right about SSF4, it's only more hype when it's about international rivalry.

Fuck, I need another ds3 this POS keeps acting up and making me rage. These controllers die pretty fast w/ fighting games ;x

Edit: It's funny when you beat the shit out of peeps and they proceed to send you pms telling you how your character is a no-effort-pos-character. This guy clearly played w/ most of the cast and I beat most, even his Rog np. Then I had the fantastic idea to play randoms, lost like 8 in a row. Did some Rog mirrors and lost 3 straight. I can't get rid of the losing stench, fml.

Street Fighter is the MAIN event when international competition is at a tourney. With no foreigners, UMV3 is more hype.

UMC3 can't hold a candle to Canada Cup SF. Shit is beyond free.

MVC2 was hyper than SF because the combos were hard and the ROMs/Resets people like Yipes would do were hard to do ON A FREAKING PROGRAMMABLE PAD. Its hard to get hype for MvC3 when shit is basis as fuck.

how fucking rough are you.. ive played with DS3 controller since Vanillia came out and ive only have had to buy 1 controller and thats because MW2 broke it... wtf are you doing <_<!

I'm going to hold my prediction until the prize spread for Capcom's recent announcement is fleshed out a bit more. I know that as soon as Capcom announced the $$$, a lot of heads turned and people decided to stop shitting around.

SFxT is a shoe-in for large pots/pot bonuses. AE2012 would be my second guess.
