online kens too. and theirs miraculously work ~90% of the time even when you've correctly anticipated and blocked it. after wakeup, you then eat a fierce DP from fullscreen somehow

I wish my character had less retarded OSs, the most useful one gets you blown the fuck up if you mess it up, and it's easy to mess up.
Xian's stream:

He's talking gen matchups while playing ranked. It's actually a very good watch so far.
Ryu -14 start up 5
Evil Ryu -11 start up 7 (can be canceled into super)
Akuma -9 start up 6 (can be canceled into Super and Ultra)
Oni -8 start up 9 (can be canceled into Super)
Ken -6 start up 8
Gouken -3 start up 6
Goukens is the only one you will rarely (if ever) punish on block. The knockback alone will make it hard.
Ryus sweep is easier to punish than fireballs at point blank range
I love watching Xian mostly for the little things I can pick up on. For example, on most characters, Gen's combo progression is Mantis (c.LK s.LP or s.MP) TC2 xx LK Gekiro 4 hits > nj.HP quickrise setup (can do TC2 xx HP Hands as blockstring, except in few cases). There are a few characters though where you can get TC2 xx HK Gekiro, which is untechable at the last hit. That leads into a 50/50 game on a jump in based on the stance (Crane crosses, Mantis looks ambiguous but is blocked normal).
I didn't know TC2 xx HK Gekiro worked on Makoto.![]()
yeah i get that. i gave up on trying to punish shoto sweeps years ago, it's more a comment on how much utter bullshit i seem to wind up eating from random terrible kens due to online nonsense. to paraphrase calli, if you could make a script that just selected ken and input nothing but DP's during the match, you could get to 3000+PP in your sleep, lol.
I believe it. <_<;if you could make a script that just selected ken and input nothing but DP's during the match, you could get to 3000+PP in your sleep, lol.
I stand corrected. Akuma's sweep is stupid safe. Dat pushback.
Edit: Fuck online, fuck it to hell. I can do the 1f cr. lp, cr. mp 9/10 times in training right now.
Nah I actually have to agree with him, at least online. Kara throw can be dealt with if you have proper spacing, but way too often online a Ken can whiff medium or heavy DP, land, you stick out a button as they land and magically they can get another DP off first despite those versions being supposedly very unsafe on whiff...so your options are either punish before they land so you can't do an actual combo(or even worse, sometimes I try to get them the frame they hit the ground with cr.mk xx h.shou, they air recover as my dp whiffs and I get fucking owned for it), or just don't attempt punishing it. It's not something that happens offline at all. You saw it yourself just the other day when we played, lol.
I have no idea what to do about Ken's kara throw. The timing just fucks me all up.
i don't think i've ever been kara-thrown by a noob ken, but they still somehow manage to absolutely destroy me. i can successfully bait the bullshit out all day long and somehow it still never actually works in my favor. tbh i think the character has gotten so thoroughly under my skin that i'm just physically incapable of putting up a reasonable fight against him lol.
to be clear i don't mean to indict legit ken players at all, i think the character generally can be terrifying in the right hands. but 99% of the people that i run into online make absolutely retarded decisions and do generally unsafe shit all of the time and somehow get away with it. shit that i can punish on reaction offline without even thinking, but whether it's due to latency or nerves or whatever, my punishes not only fail, but actually get counter-punished and it drives me up the fucking wall, lol.
this roughly is how i imagine welt feels about the thawk matchup
Easiest thing is just to stand at the edge of step kick range and toss out your fastest poke when you see him move forward, unless he's really on point with feints which most Kens don't even seem to know exist you can poke him out of it. If you just block in step kick range though you just have to hope you tech it, this is usually when it's landed, when they have you holding downback in footsies range.
I know most of you guys probably crouch tech, but do any of you guys tech on reaction? It's near impossible to do online, but I'm wondering if it's a worthwhile skill to learn on vega. I think my reactions are pretty good to be able to do it, but online is just impossible.
After I get my Q4 (hopefully by friday), gonna see if I could go over to ZP or whatever to see how I'd fare. I think I'm a good player, but online just really fucks with everything I do. And I'm better in longerish sets. I need to work on whiff punishing, and paying more attention to the opponent's movement in general, though, without having to look at mine or the space in the middle.
wow, you actually committed to the Q4? i'm impressed. are you sure there isn't anyone left under the sun you need to ask about that?
I love the Q4. It's really nice.
Yes you want to learn to tech on reaction. There are some matchups you want to avoid crouch teching like the plague.
