Hrmm I was kinda figuring he'd get a little extra if he did it max range, but good to know it has to be done in my face.

The match as Sakura is awful now, step kick demolishes absolutely every neutral button she has so she can't approach from the ground anymore; her air tatsu nerf took away her midscreen DP bait so she has no way of approaching from the air either. Meanwhile he still gets to tatsucopter out of the corner if you actually get him into it, plus there's stuff like me charging FA to bait a jump in the corner so I can L.DP > U2, guy jumps, I dash up...and the Shou goes underneath him and whiffs entirely :/

Shinebox/other Ken players, any opinions as to who is a hard counterpick to Ken? He is extremely difficult to deal with as Sakura and I've been gatekept by him for 3 straight tournaments. I was thinking Gief as that would eliminate stepkick/ex.tatsu mixup shenanigans, but I'm not sure if there was just like a totally braindead counter for him.

Your cr.MK, st.MK and st.HK are better than his. If you get thrown delay your wake up. If he hits you with a HP SRK do not quick rise. Your medium and light DP can punish his sweep on block.

close up = jab xx shoryu which you can both do, Your frame traps are stronger, he probably wont step kick here unless he's an idiot (see note Welt made about Ken players that step kick U1 Ibuki)
midrange = Your options are better than his. Keep him here. It will be hard because of his walkspeed change though
3/4 of the screen do not throw fireballs. If he's decent you will see him kara air ex tatsu and that shit is ambiguous to block now
fullscreen you both suck, you're not Dhalsim get back in there.
