DSi Flashcarts, tell me your secrets.

I haven't had a DS since the "lite" or "fattie".

Back then flashcart operation was pretty cookie cutter.

I have a friend selling his DSi for 70 bucks. Only reason I would get it is if R4's still work for them flawlessly.

I checked their website and I see carts for sale for the DSi. So I'm wondering, is there a catch? Do you need to have a certain update version in order for it to work?

    Thanks

What he said, I had a CycloDS for my Lite, then got a Acekard2i for my DSi XL. I never looked back.

If it's an old pre-DSi R4 I would guess it won't work since a lot of cards came out specifically for the DSi afterward, like the acekard 2i that hasn't replaced the acekard 2

    Perfect, last question.

What size SD card should I get? Are most games around 50mb+ each? Or more.

Is 2GB good enough for now?

I think it is, I use a 4GB card and have like 20+~ games on it? Some are 50MB, some get as big as like 200MB~, but it's rare, plus to me it's not really any great benefit to have a shit ton of games at your immediate disposal as opposed to finishing a game and grabbing your card to swap out for new stuff.

Most games I played were 125-250mb. I used a 4gb and that held more than enough.

dstwo because it's the only one that can play gba games without a slot-2 adapter.

If this is the case go for it because holy shit I wish I could a.) play gba games right now and b.) not buy a slot-2 thing

dstwo is definitely the best, if you care at all about playing gba games.

2 gb is plenty. roms average around 100 mb or so after being trimmed (this), and in some rare cases can be under 10 mb. I've got 17 ds roms, and about a hundred snes/nes/gb games on mine, and still have plenty of space to spare. I can't really imagine why anyone would need more than 15-25 ds games or so at once.

Anyways I would like a cart with maximum compatibility. The more the better in terms of function.

As for my main goal. I haven't played a DS game since the DS lite launched. So I have a huge backlog right now.

Any card even remotely worth buying will play every game perfectly.

I figured the acekard or R4 would suffice then, considering R4 has been in existence forever.

Use an Acekard 2i, myself. Might get the occasional issue on newer games, but patches roll around now and then to fix 'em if the games themselves aren't modded.

Have a 16gb MicroSD paired with mine. Sitting on like 5gb of DS games with a bunch of NES and Gameboy games on top that are run through emulation. I have no excuse to be bored as long as I have my DS, and if you're keen on having movies or music on the fly, you can use the Moonshell program to play MP3s or the DS equivalent of movie files (might get lucky and find something encoded somewhere, but you'll probably have to convert stuff yourself).
