    PC Video recording software

Besides the obvious Fraps (which isn't free unless someone knows a safe non virus infested hookup) what do people use for recording in game footage on your PC. To go along with this, besides Windows Movie Maker which is free but has limitations, does anyone know of any good software? I'm wanting to start making videos of my Rift guilds raids, but no clue where to get started as I've never done it before.

I realize this doesn't really answer your question, but I suggest just getting a fraps license. Its pretty cheap and "lifetime" use and all.

I use ZD Soft Screen Recorder. Don't be fooled by the name, it used to be called Game Recorder but they merged it. I used it in FFXI, FFXIV and others.

If you're going to buy a license, DXtory is much much better than FRAPS. Has extra features too, such as being able to framecap PC games. Some people prefer a locked 30 FPS to a fluctuating 40-60.

I may go the license route later when money isn't so much an issue so thank you for those recommendations. Mainly was looking for free without watermarks to see if it's a hobby I end up enjoy doing. Also what do you guys use for compiling and editing once your done recording? I remember back in FFXI our movie maker Sendo used Vegas, but no clue if that's still around or a good one to use.

Vegas is still good. Adobe Premiere Pro is very good also and is what I use.

I just use Camstudio, its open source and quite handy. I haven't used it to record games etc but it works a treat for general screen recording.
