While doing some ultimately unfruitful crit testing a while back (I was too close to the crit rate cap to draw any kind of conclusions) I ran into something quite befuddling regarding accuracy.

This was the baseline testing wearing no crit gear
    Code:
    You
    DPS: 4.95 HPS: 3.62 DMG: 44785
Total Damage Dealt: 58534 Total Attacks: 5004 Total Hits: 5001 Total Accuracy: 99.94%
    Evasion%: 63.83% Block%: 0.00% Parry%: 5.70%
    Damage abilities:
    . attack Dmg: 58534 Resist/Miss: 3 TotalCtr: 5001
    Damaged targets:
    . heliodor doblyn: 58534
    Damage taken:
    . attack: 44489 Ctr: 588
    . Cluster Geyser: 296 Ctr: 2
This was with crit gear, which had more accuracy due to explorer's bandanna and choker
    Code:
    You
    DPS: 6.16 HPS: 5.02 DMG: 39908
Total Damage Dealt: 45038 Total Attacks: 3848 Total Hits: 3847 Total Accuracy: 99.97%
    Evasion%: 60.10% Block%: 0.00% Parry%: 5.50%
    Damage abilities:
    . attack Dmg: 45038 Resist/Miss: 1 TotalCtr: 3847
    Damaged targets:
    . heliodor doblyn: 45038
    Damage taken:
    . attack: 39796 Ctr: 536
    . Cluster Geyser: 112 Ctr: 1
The second gear set had 17 more ACC and 3 more DEX (explorer's calot -> explorer's bandanna +2 ACC, explorer's choker +15 acc, explorer's moccasins +3 DEX).

The target was R45 doblyns and I was on PGL using weathered H2H. I can confirm that the 1 miss in the second parse was not a bug, as I happened to notice my accuracy drop from 100% when I was moving from 1 mob to the other (used the same 2 mobs and alternated to let them regen) so I actually looked back in the log and saw it myself.

The only sense I can make of it is that accuracy does indeed have a cap, and it's obscenely high. The likelihood of having 99.9x% accuracy, adding more, and still having 99.9x% says to me that 100% accuracy is likely not possible.

His stats were 271pie/271dex and 650AP

Obviously my WS damage was much higher, that's a given with capped PIE, but his light shot damage was much much higher. I've changed my gear now to where it's sitting at 330PIE/270DEX and 590AP and will see how that parses on Garuda vs what I was doing previously
This doesn't surprise me at all, this is in line with everything we know. For ARC/BRD AP should be considered more valuable than it is for other classes, since so much damage comes from Light Shot; in comparison to other classes AutoAttack.

I haven't got around to comparing my new set vs old yet, but I'm running with a new bow now so it won't be entirely accurate. Making a guess, I'd say that Garuda weapons most heavily favor capped main stats and then AP > secondary, though to some extent AP has a value > secondary stats when comparing different pieces to each other for every weapon.

Yeah, we've recently been having the same sort of discussion in our LS and haven't really decided which is the best way to go. It was really noticeable drop off in damage when I went from Crab Bow +1 to Grindy GC bow since I swapped my attack gloves to DEX gloves (The Crab Bow +1 was double DEX melded). Granted that is emphasized more because of the drop off in base damage too. (Semi-related sidenote, I really regret picking Grindy and not Uldah!)

I mean realistically what it boils down to is whether to meld your gloves with attack or DEX. And do Limsa have some STR/Attack bracelets too? The rest of your slots are pretty marginal trade-offs unless I'm forgetting something glaringly obvious.

EDIT: Triple melded body + legs let you wear attack gloves without a major DEX/PIE penalty but of course triple melds aren't exactly the easiest piece to acquire unless you have a lot of gil.

Dex on gloves is just a waste for archer. Even if you are below the caps, I would always want 3x meld atk on felt bracers over anything else. I actually use DL Bracers simply because I haven't found 70+ atk felt bracers decently priced yet.

I am using the relic bow and have the hardest time trying to hit the Piety cap.

    My setup is as follow:

    Darklight Eyepatch
Darklight Corselet or Rainmaker's Tunic +1 (38 piety)
    Uldah GC Sash
    Felt Trouser +1 (20 str/16 dex)
    Darklight Bracers
    Darklight Boots
    Explorer's Earring
    Electrum Gorget +1
    2x Piety rings +1
    Piety Bracelet +1

With that setup Piety is right around 300 and Dex is around 260 (wearing the corselet). Atk is close to 600 but I feel I would be doing better if I wore the Rainmakers instead.

I could get the militia subligar (it's freaking hideous) or maybe double meld some Kecks for more piety but I already have dex as low as I want to take it.

I refuse to wear the Crown as well because I did that for months and couldn't wait to replace it.

Well here's my setup, I'm debating losing some piety as I'm sitting at 352, with 280dex I think, might be 260 I'll check when I get home.

    Grid. Officers cap-15pie
Rainmakers - double pie meld +34
Fingerless raptorskin triple meld - 81 attack
Felt kecks- double meld swords man tIV
    Choral feet-10pie

Using a giantsgall longbow w/ +42 crit hit potency
    pie rings, bracelets, explorers neck/ear
And a scarlet sash on the waist.
Was debating swaping in a single griphon jerkin w/ +20 pie meld and swapping the meld on the bow w/ a +20dex. I don't know how useful that would be, and the grid overcoat is always an option also.

You're better off putting PIE or DEX on the Longbow, arguably DEX is better because capping PIE for it is easy while also using ATK bracers and your DEX would be low, but PIE is more versatile because it allows you to use different rings and such (When applicable)

eg, I can still cap PIE while using acc for Garuda. I can use AP in that slot, or DEX, otherwise.

    Ideally, I'd be using this:

    Crown 10PIE/10DEX (10STR)
    Raimakers (35PIE)
Felt Br (3PIE, 50AP, moar is better)
    Militia Sub (20PIE)
    DL Caligae (15PIE)
    Tourm Rings (36PIE)
    Flame Sergeants Sash (5dex/10acc)
    TourmBrc(4PIE)
    Exp Ear (5AP)
    Exp/Elec Neck (15acc/20Crit::30AP)
    120PIE/15DEX

Only way to get more PIE is to meld more to body really, or get more on leg slot via triple meld+

Alright... XIV is getting to the point where it needs a "What's better" thread, like XI has. however, since game is about to re-vamp, and i'm to lazy to start it:

    I have...(sorry just got home)

Giantsgall Longbow - +40 Crit Potency
Grid. officers cap - Piety +15, crit hit rating +10, Sanction: +15atk power
    Rainmaker's - +34 Pie
    Explorer's Belt - +12 Crit hit rating
Raptorsking gloves of slaying - +81 atk power
    Felt Kecks - +14str, +14dex
    Explorer's stripper boots - 3dex, 5atk power, +30 crit hit rating

That puts me at 339pie/265dex/223str, 567ap, 384acc, +72 crit hit rating (which i assume is +7.2%???)

It still sorta surprises me that the stat cap for most lvl 50ish weapons is around 350/310, but from everything i've read seems to put brd at 330/290.
Basically, I can sacrifice some crit hit rating, for more PIE, but from my understanding it's pointless because i'm over stat cap already /shrug.
I needs to test it myself I think.

Set-up I was looking at as Grindanian was

    Grindy Officer Cap
    Triple T4 PIE Raptorskin Harness
    Felt Bracers
    Triple T4 PIE Raptorskin Subligar
    Choral Sandals

    Grindy Sash
    Grindy Earring
    Grindy Necklace
    Spinel Bracelets +1
    Spinel Ring +1
    Spinel Ring +1

    Jerked Beef

That puts you at 351 PIE and 296 DEX total (with lowest possible triple T4 melds) and activates the 25 attack on the GC bow. Then you're free to do as you please with the gloves, whether it's full attack or 1 DEX meld and rest attack. I actually don't know the stat caps for the GC bows as I've only just come back to game so it's entirely possible you can ditch some PIE. Looking at it obviously you would stick with your attack gloves with such a banging meld >_>

Raptorskin Harness is interchangeable with Rainmakers. My current body is actually a double meld Rainmakers (I don't have any triples as of yet)

Obviously if you have Militia/Darklight gear then you can improve on it. It was just a quick 5 minute check I did to see what sort of PIE/DEX figures you could hit without using glove melds.

I see 52crit rating, and it's super devalued on bosses and not very useful. Neither is your critpower on bow. I suggested PIE or DEX because they allow to you move stuff around, whether it be an AP ring, DEX ring, ACC ring, etc.

339PIE is probably right around caps for the Giantsgall bow though. The reason 330/290 comes up for BRD is because Ifrit's/Moogle are lower DPS values than their counterparts (which are around 39.7 compared to BRD's 36.5ish)

Did you record your ACC values? Were you in light/full PT?

It would be very SE of them to cap us at 99.9% in any case.

I didn't note them but I could re-get them by putting on the same gear (that would require me to log in tho, meh).

    And no I was solo.

I'm still a noob but I'm now using:

Giantsgall Bow (+25 DEX +10 Accuracy)
Explorer's Bandana (+10 Crit +10 Accuracy - Will upgrade to Grid Officer's Cap when I get the rank)
    Rainmaker's Tunic +1 (+6 STR +30 Piety +5 AP)
    Explorer's Belt (+12 Crit)
Felt Bracers (+24 DEX +3 PIE +5 Accuracy)
    Felt Gaskins (+13 Piety)
Choral Sandals (+10 Piety +2 Accuracy)
    Explorer's Earring (+5 AP)
    Electrum Gorget +1 (+30 AP)
    Spinel Bracelet's +1 (+4 DEX)
    Tourm Ring +1 (+18 PIE)
    Tourm Ring +1 (+18 PIE)

Total stats are: 295 DEX, 335 PIE, 512 AP, 382 Accuracy, +22 Crit

With this set, Ifrit's Bow for +30 Attack or Giantsgall for +4 DMG, +25 DEX? I can make up the DEX elsewhere if I have to but if I use the Giantsgall I can use PIE rings instead a DEX ring, so I'm pretty sure that's better. Isn't that right?

I don't understand BRDs that wear explorer's bandana, few people uses it too at my server.. what is so interesting about acc+10 that you rarely need and crit+10 that barely has any effect.. did i miss something? AF hat seems way better to me

People wearing Explorer's Bandanna/Moccasins are doing it wrong, or lack better options when capped on PIE (In reference to Moccasins).

There's also a thread for those questions now.
