How does Parry rate get calculated?
I'm considering making a WAR build with heavy parry rate. I'm just not sure how much points into parry would increase the percentage of parrying. Was there any tests done that I may have missed?

Broken weathered hora, +102 crit rate
R40 doblyn
Hits - 5213
Misses - 5
Crits - 1378
Acc - 99.92%
Crit Rate - 26.43%
R50 doblyn
Hits - 4497
Misses - 8
Crits - 1094
Acc - 99.86%
Crit Rate - 24.32%
-Crit rate isn't capped at 20% nor 25%
-(unrelated) Acc really does seem to be capped at 99.X
-dLvl matters, for equal to or below player level not much tho
-Need to do more testing on even lower level mobs to see if crit rate keeps going higher
I probably won't be able to do tests on higher level mobs to see if the penalty curve increases, afk second wind spam barely kept up for the R50 mob test.
you could maybe try using leve mobs. those would go up to 52, and i've noticed that leve mobs hit a lot weaker than normal mobs their level in general. (i had a wtf moment from this when i tried soloing some ornery karakul ewes... they were 3 levels below me and yet i was getting pounded for almost 180 a whack on my warrior when leve mobs 3 levels higher than me hit for around half that. lol)
As others have mentioned, with so much change on the horizon I'm not terribly enthused about spending that much effort on testing.
Nvm the semester just started Monday and the last thing I wanna do in my spare time is experiments when I should be (trying) to enjoy the game.
edit: something else that just occurred to me. When doing the R50 test second wind was keeping up just fine for most of the test but towards the end it started to fall behind significantly, it didn't occur to me at the time but mobs may gain increased attack/acc/stats in general at lower HP.
We're all familiar with mobs using more TP moves at lower HP% since XI but since doblyns only have 1 special attack and they can only use it once (why I use them to test) the only reason I would be taking more damage later in the test is because it's regular attack damage was higher. 2nd wind keeping up for 4000+ hits only to suddenly fall behind (and not recover) makes this seem likely.
While interesting, does a crit build make sense for any job? On MNK and WAR, I have no place to put crit without losing STR/VIT/INT/ACC. DRG can reach a crit rate of 20% without even trying. I don't know much about BRD.
Irrelevant soon, but for those of you wanting to beat Garuda and all sorts of shit.
BRD
Lv52 Halberdier's
Raging Strike (Low controlled via observation due to misses)
Light Shot
354PIE/264DEX/561AP - 180/215 - 197.5
354PIE/264DEX/588AP - 193/227 - 210
354PIE/308DEX/516AP - 177/206 - 191.5
336PIE/326DEX/516AP - 177/207 - 192
Heavy Shot
354PIE/264DEX/588AP - 467/549 - 508
354PIE/308DEX/516AP - 459/538 - 498.5
These changes are for hands slot, AP vs DEX. One test I took a PIE ring off and threw a DEX on. (Light shot only)
Why would that be a moot point? The actual value doesn't matter, only the trend.
It wouldn't matter. Though those who are new to BRD, I would recommend a Giantsgall/Ifrit's/FlameLT bow for Garuda. Light shot WILL hit harder and that will invariably make plumes somewhat easier to control to those new to BRD.
Garuda's Spine will easily out DPS them all though.
Garuda's has a whopping....0.73 DPS advantage.
It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Flame Lt. beat Garudas in usage overall.
Good thing I've parsed both against each other!
Majority of your damage still comes from Light Shot, Garuda's speed allows you to shoot way more often and in between WS for no loss due to the systems lag. In a typical Garuda fight (BLM DPS unchanged, same speed, etc) I will shoot 25-35 more times with Garuda's bow than I will with Flame LT.
You'd get a more accurate comparison on a single target fight, but saying you shoot 25-35 more times doesn't really mean much when you don't say how many shots you got off total.
220 vs 190 off the top of my head, multi target changes things a bit but if I'm not shooting plumes I'm blowing arrows on Garuda.
We've just started winning garuda the last 3 nights but I'm really not that focused on weapon skilling garuda at any point besides the <25% zerg other than producing a quicknock combo at 2nd plume set after 3rd jump and then another quicknock after the sisters die also random wide volleys, I'm the paeon/main ballad bard so I really dont have that much time and most of my garuda damage is light shoting but I'm doing that the entire fight to have tp incase of east wind plumes after sisters or just to be ready for plumes pre 2hr
the other bard in our party does get a few more combos off on her but I put plumes as the first priority for myself and the fights typically go very smoothly when we dont get an unlucky stun knockback into tornados or something from sisters
I've only done this fight as bard and my stats are 338pie 314dex 504? attack power without jerked beef up so I think my playstyle on this fight heavily favors the flame bow over garuda
Based on that Garuda's is under performing.
Garuda is 32% faster than Lt, if you were firing 190 with Lt you should be firing closer to 250 with Garuda.
edit: @Fondue, weapon choice aside you should try working in more Atk, if you're using DEX gloves try switching to Atk
Yeah I've got some 36dex gloves I keep trying to sell but.. 100 pairs of felt bracers on the wards says fuck you :\
Is your Quick Knock back up for Superna?
Ballad/Paeon or Minuet BRD, shouldn't change anything as far as rotation, just ability to potentially WS an extra combo at like one point of the fight. (90%->65%)
Edit: NVM I can see that it's not. If you want to try my rotation out it might be smoother.
@Code:Enter Barrage->Song TP/Get Paeon or get it up-> Light Shot *Jump Heavy Shot *Plumes Quick Knock->Rain of Death your pillar/Largest concentration->Barrage->Light shot *Jump Heavy Shot *Plumes Leaden Arrow->Wide Volley your pillar/Largest concentration->Light Shot *Jump *Plumes Rain of Death your pillar/Largest concentration Barrage->Light Shot->Quelling Strike->Light shot plumes->2200-2500TP Heavy Shot->Light shot *2h Plumes Leaden Arrow->Wide Volley your pillar->Light Shot Rain of Death after entire 2nd wave is out->Light shot until 2h/do SS, etc. *2h BV->Barrage->Sanguine Rite->Song *Superna Wait until hp is >80% -> Barrage->Quick Knock Combo->Start Bloodletter if necessary (Chameleon as needed, each BRD does 2500dmg, rest is easily picked up by whatever other DD's you're using) Build TP/Finish Bloodletter on Garuda, swap BV/songs, keep building TP in case of South Winds/Pop Barrage as it comes up
As far as speed, we both know you can't say one is 32% faster in a vacuum and then state what a shot value would be. In one situation I may get 1 shot off for one bow, and in another I may still get 1 shot off. I don't disagree that any of the other bows is easier to use, and plumes should go down much faster via light shot.
I agree, it's why I said a better way to compare the bows would be on a single target but damage potential is much easier to predict in XIV compared to XI due to the linear damage equations and even distribution of variables.
If Garuda's DPS advantage can't outpace Lt's dmg/hit with Light shot (on paper Garuda's fires 32% faster with 45 crit atk and Lt. has 30% higher DMG rating + 30atk) I do believe Lt could beat it, especially on higher level targets.
@churchill I tried out your rotation in our runs last night and I just have a hard time seeing any reason to use quick nock pre 3rd jump, drgs are already standing around for a bit there holding her. Also our 2nd bard grabbed the spine yesterday and we were always within a few 100 dmg of each other most fights but his parse went down pretty considerably the 2 fights we did after he swapped, my light shots doing ~150 and his ~105 and ws dmg barely higher. Not sure of he just wasn't adjusting to the lower delay or what but he said he preferred the flame LT bow (for this particular fight anyways). He doesn't have attack power gloves yet either so our stats are very close
We go drg drg brd brd blm blm whm pld, I'd like to try out these talons on her sometime too but nobody else will play brd
