Interesting things regarding the summoning of Primals and summons in general in GameWatch interview.
Looks like the current Primals are considered gods and won't be summonable easily but require you to beat them and then they can be used as a last resort card.
On the other hand Yoshi also confirmed Summoner appearing mentioning Carbuncle as something you would be able to summon on your own.
I suppose we'll see tons of obscure summons coming back to life in this game if the standard ones aren't available. He mentioned he's planning one Primal for each element.. not sure where the Moogle stands though.
The basic elements are all covered: Fire-Ifrit, Wind-Garuda, Earth-Titan, Ice-Shiva, Water-Leviathan, Thunder-Ramuh.
Odin will most likely cover the Umbral element unless he's treated as another kind of Primal like his title suggests.
I'm not exactly sure how they're planning Summoner at this point. Without classic summons like Shiva and Ifrit there aren't many options left for those elements.
I guess Quetzalcoatl may appear again, maybe Brynhildr to replace Ifrit. Valefor for wind?
Edit: He mentions 4 elements+ light and dark in the interview as planned gods but he listed 5 other than Odin. Translation error or did he mess up somewhere? lol
Yeah was reading that as well, saw this:
Was like huh? When Ifrit gets summoned somewhere it will change the weather of all zones and you can tell someone summoned Ifrit.
That is so badass. They want to make it so that you get a low drop rate 1 time use card from fighting primals. Using this card will summon the primal to destroy everything near you.
Primal card farming to win a specific fight?
Hopefully this isn't possible and it's like, one card per month max.
Keywords: Low drop rate. Remember these are the people that brought you Ridill.
Or it's an OSHIT I WIN button, but if it drops such that like 5 appear per week per server, then I'd say w.e. A primal brew that you can't get with any regularity is fun.
If primal cards are the difference between winning and losing, "low drop rate" just means you're spending more time farming them (keeping in mind that primal battles are instanced and repeatable).
Hopefully, primals drop one card per week/month/whatever per server.
Posted in another thread, but figured I should repost it here:

Really hope they do away with the primal card idea... It should just be something that requires your free company to be together, and balanced accordingly. There's nothing wrong with the idea that a summon will be used at some point during every boss fight even, pretty sure that's how most battles in every Final Fantasy played out, as far as I can remember. If a boss is exceedingly difficult, or they want it to be a fight where summons don't make a large difference, lock them out or a la FFX, give them the ability to simply cancel your summon after a few moments, giving you a chance to just use their special.
I am just kinda skeptical due to no mention of changes to the battle system or actual game play mechanics. I know this can greatly change by the time jobs come around but I really do not want to be left with the feeling of playing pac-man on an unreal 3 engine, by the time ver2 comes around. All this next gen engine, graphics and server talk but yet no mention of any next gen game play, no innovation etc. No matter how pretty they make the game look if they are going to measure every game play mechanic by wow standards, its gonna fail. Its sad that a major company like SE seems to not want to think outside the box.
Wait...didn't they say using Ifrit would be a last resort card? Do they specifically say cards will be used?
They should use magicite to summon the primal...
That'll most likely be it. lol
Clearly what they should do is take the "Last resort card" part about what they said literally, and make us purchase RL cards that we take codes off of and put them in a random chance system to give us the card in game to use like primaeval brews.
