I don't think they sponsor people for the 500 shirts they want to sell at Evo. They sponsor players so that some of the 90k+ people watching on the internet will go to their website while feeling hype from the tournament the has Brokentier's name plastered all over it. I don't think they needed to sign as many guys as they did, but I think hitching their wagon to Yipes' name was a great marketing strategy. Do they need his permission to sell his shirts? Nope. Will they sell more of his shirts when people actively associate Yipes with the company producing said shirts? I don't think there's any doubt.
