Yeah, it is/was (still on the fence). Last year's sucked, but thats because their was a bigger tourney with way more pot $ ongoing on the west coast so I'll give him the benefit of that. So he bought Daigo a plane ticket over which is a great step in the right direction. This tourney still doesn't come close to a Shadowloo or Canada Cup, which is what the argument was about much earlier in the thread. Season's Beatings was also mentioned because it had way more international comp in the past (2009, 2010, and 2011 SB was a metric ton better than CEO lol).

Canada Cup is still #2 to EVO with Shadowloo a close 3rd. There is just WAY too many killers at those tourneys and its not close. Florida is just a bad travel location for a tourney. It is insanely far for Asia to travel and even in the USA it can be a 6.5 hour flight for many of USA's top players.

Well yeah, FR is godlike, but CC and Shadowloo aren't in US XD Final Round and Season's Beatings are the best two in the US besides EVO. SoCal Reg can be either really good or really bad depending on the year. Lets see if CEO this year can meet expectations set by Jebailey's constant blowing it up. If it can, that will be godlike. An American will have to be fighting Daigo in grand finals over Gamerbee to make that happen though.

I only mentioned money in my previous post because it made CEO and that west coast tourney split attendance causing them both to not do as well as they could have that weekend. From what I remember, it was the west coast tourney's fault (I can't remember the name of it, bad with names).

Funny enough, at the rate things are going, the following tournaments are going to solidify themselves as true majors:

Final Round
UFGT
CEO
NorCal Regionals

SoCal Regionals and Seasons' Beatings also qualify, even though they miss the EVO season - especially Seasons' Beatings, which is the Mecca of Marvel. ECT and possibly one of Big E's works would most likely qualify as well.

Each of those tournaments listed are starting to do more than just provide a tournament and some high-profile players. They have the potential to continue growing even further.

This years' list of EVO "majors" could be cut in half, really. Probably would not be seeing many of the exhaustion (and other) problems we are starting to see from players/TOs/streamers.

Otherwise, agreed mostly with Shadowloo and Canada Cup doing well. However, Shadowloo's sponsor situation this year is not a good look, no matter how you cut it. Hoping Canada Cup steps up their stream game this year.

I understand the top players may care, but 98% of the community which is pool players and stream monsters don't give a shit as long as the stream quality is strong and the competition level is high. EVO, Shadowloo, and Canada Cup are the best 3 for competition level.

On the "major" issue, the problem lies with stupid ass tourneys like NorthWest Majors calling itself a major. That shit was a glorified local with some NorCal players who drove/flew up. Toryuken was not a major, etc.

I more mean that the competition level is due to the presence of top players. If the taste left in the mouths of top players is "the payout wasn't worth the trip", next year the only people who come out will be pot monsters, and the competition will be mediocre.

CEO and FR are probably the 2 best NA majors and they're both on the east coast. Norcal/Socal and UFGT are hype but they're still growing.

Shadowloo had like 12-15 elite players and everything after that was mediocre to bad. CC is good but the stream sucked and I don't see any need to travel out of the country to play all of the same players I can in the states. It's literally just US and Europe and the 4-5 Japanese players you see at Evo.

CEO is the biggest tournament I've ever been to. The ballroom was twice the size of Norcal's and about 1.5 times bigger than FR's. CEO is the perfect precursor to Evo.

Shadowloo had about 12-15 more elite players than most majors. That tournament was fucking insane this year. The AE tournament was stacked, Marvel field was weak but Marlin's performance made it memorable, and some of the highest level KoF I've ever seen. You can hate on Shadowloo because dudes have stupid accents and Australian players are free, but there hasn't been another tournament as hype as that one so far this year. Also, wtf at CC being all the same players you play in the states. The whole reason CC was hype last year was the team tournament. When was the last time a tournament in NA had enough international comp to field 2 European teams, a Korean team and 2 Japanese teams? Probably Evo.
