Not really when you consider most pool play is someone bodying someone else 3-0. But if it gets into a good game, then yes, it drags out.

If they consider 3/5 even for just top 32 or something, that will be hype.

In other news, EVO crew have confirmed that KOF has 1k+ registrants. MLG is probably wondering what the fuck they did wrong (which is a whole separate issue).

Also, lol at the Justin argument. Just fucking lol.

Wow that's fucking nuts! Was the MLG tournament not considered a major by their standards? Going from 30~ people to over 1k is insane lol.

I thought it was cause the MLG tourney was bumping heads with another event along with a dash of short notice so people couldn't plan for it.

    1. KOF is not as large in the US as everyone thinks or wishes it was. 13 is the first game to turn peoples' heads here. Otherwise, it's been China/Mexico/Japan playing. Because of this, the level of play in the US is meh compared to everyone else and there are little, if any, scenes.

    2. KOF has a growth problem, primarily focused on the lack of a sustainable netcode. A large portion of people who play fighters won't pick it up because they can't NAH it up (and lets face it, a lot of people choose to do this these days instead of going to venues/scene meet ups). They also won't put in the effort to build up their scenes on their own (but will bitch nonstop about how their area does not have a KOF scene). They will even go as far as to say that if your area does not have a scene, don't bother with the game.

    3. Bala and the other SoCal latinos (Answer, Reynald, Romance) are absolute monsters. Everyone else entering a tournament that they are in are just contributing to their paydays. However, what people have to keep in mind is point 1 - they have years of experience on everyone else when it comes to KOF fundamentals. It's going to take months, if not years, to get on their level to pose a threat. Their biggest threat was Japan (Tokido) and China (Xiaohai and Dakou)... And well, Bala took Tokido free and Romance knocked him out of the tournament in continuation (Tokido v. Romance was easily the best series at MLG). As much as I want to see Xiaohai and Dakou put up a fight, I get the feeling Bala is going to steamroll everyone.

    4. Some of the KOF population are stuck up - Look at the recent article on Orochinagi trying to start shit with Arturo, pinning shit on him for why KOF will not be at the next MLG. Stay to watch HAV come from left field and bitchslap the author.

    5. MLG fails to perform proper due diligence, nor do they attempt to foster the scene. The first three signs were evident, but they failed to take them into account. They thought they had the next payday lined up since there's been buzz about KOF, but they were not going to put any work into building the scene like they did with HALO (and even then, this is now looking like a problem in and of itself). So far, the games that they have brought in have already had established scenes - Starcraft, LoL, MK and SC5 (SC5's strength is debatable, and I would not be surprised if it is dropped soon). KOF? Nah, son. MLG was going to have to put in a little bit of work, and I don't mean just tossing money into the pot and hope people come because of it. Point 3 will just come back and bite you in the ass.

Come to think of it, all MLG is good for when it comes to solutions is throwing money at the problem.

On top of that, they scheduled their first KOF tournament on top of a California major. That shit's not going to fly considering California is currently the bastion of US KOF, and chances are high there was going to be a NorCal v. SoCal battle. Their next tournament was on top of ECT.

Only question is, with the tournament being in Anaheim, why did nobody show up?

Your pool looks kinda free. Jago is the only named player and he barely plays AE. Of the local guys, you have L3land who was the best Gief in Florida before Flash picked him up and won top 8 at evo. Also, look out for Richel. He's an old school 3S player and his Makoto is pretty beast. If you play Sagat you shouldn't have any problems getting out though.

The only reason KOF has 1000+ entrants at EVO is because of the T-Shirt....read the SRK threads, there are people who signed up who aren't even GOING to EVO and basically paid $70 or whatever it is for that shirt and having friends pick it up for them.

One of the SRK threads had a poll and almost 2/3 of people who signed it said they don't even play KOF and just signed up for the T-Shirt. I did the same damn thing. I am grabbing my t-shirt and taking the DQ lol.

That's still 10x more entrants than MLG if the previous statement was correct (30). The problem, imo, is the set of games they are running. The skillset required to play all 3 at once is too large. If you support MLG, you go there and you play your single game. Let's say that game is SC5, the only game you play. Do you want to enter KoF, which you do not play at all? Probably not, it's a waste of $50 or whatever the entry is.

Yep, that is an issue MLG faces, but my point was just that several hundred of the KOF entrants aren't even playing in the tournament.

The shirt + my points on why MLG failed pretty much covers all of it.

Also, I thought Jebailey was redoing the pools for CEO last night because someone fucked up hard?

Speak of the devil, he just posted the corrections. Looks like pool 6 also has MeanSaltine, who is a WI/MN semi-strong gief.

How many people generally make it out of pools?
