Thanks for doing the interview, good read.
Good job Sono.
Wow.. must be very amazing you have met the guy.
Sonomaa... you mention WoW alot... are youa big fan of it? You keep mention that it is "winning" but I think that FFXIV / FFXI are unique and "no wow-clones" like all the bunch of games out there. It stroke me interesting when you suggested a simple-easy and AUTOMATED crafting system like in WoW. WoW´s crafting is a PATHETIC JOKJE. Is that what you want in this game? You want a Wowish version of a FF game?
Well.. we can get something different.. but I personally dont want FF14 to become a stupid WoW clone.... do you?
Maybe you should read a little more because he clearly states there are going to be 2 crafting systems. One which gives you control over quality (similar steps as it is now), which leads to you controlling the chance. The other with the select craft and auto make w/ low chance of HQ.
And I'd welcome a WoW clone over the shit that I had at release. I don't think that's what it's going to become, but it's a better situation. I have faith in Yoshi-P to decide what makes other MMOs good and mixing it w/ FF and giving us some quality content.
I am personally sick and tired of WoW Clones such as Rift, Lotr etc... i hope this game does not become one of those
SE trying to be so different is what caused this whole debacle in the first place. The more interviews I read the more it sounds like there was just so much complication that went into the current FFXIV that it became just a clusterfuck to fix so they decided a rebuilding would be better time spent. I don't think they need to clone wow but they need to do what blizzard did when WoW came into the market, take whats out there and make it better with their own spin on it.
Now that would be good.. FF has it's niche of fans and users etc... I want this game to keep being unique.
It can be unique while still borrowing and reworking aspects from other successful MMOs. Now some of the stuff they mentioned in the interview sounds like WoW, but quite a lot of it does not.
in FF11 crfting was long, tedious but it was very useful and it gave you a sense of acomplishment. In WoW crafting to max level can be done in minutes, literraly... it is a joke. I dont wnat that
WoW crafting is far from being done in minutes, hours? Yes, but it requires massive resources and gold to accomplish that. You're assuming every player in WoW has infinite gold to spend and those resources needed to level are just sitting on the AH in unlimited # which is far from the case. FFXI crafting was unrewarding and tiresome because of the rates of breaking and extremely low probability of something good being made.
At least in WoW you got a buff from having max craft, that can benefit you in more then just money.
Minutes to 450 - if you have a pretty good supply of gold, maybe, and the AH is stocked well enough. And pretty sure a lot of the 500+ recipes require plenty of BoP items which require you to run through dungeons on a regular basis, get lucky enough to win the roll on the item if it drops, as well as items which you can only make once every three days. At least it was with Tailoring, which is the only profession I really got that high.
Yep, minutes.
Just curious, have you played WoW? Because most of the heaviest haters of the game have never even tried it out, and then talk a bunch of shit that has no basis in fact at all.
Well shit, I was beaten. Question still stands though.
He also said that the "automatic" crafting would only be for recipes you're significantly above and would yield no experience. It's just a convenience thing.
Which is all I'd really want honestly. If I was skilling in WoW, I paid attention to what I was doing. If I was just making mats to sell or send to my alts, AFK. Come back, it's done, nothing to worry about. I hated having to load the mats into every fucking synth I did in FFXI, it was tedious as fuck. I'm making 50 of the same goddamn thing and I have to load the shit into the boxes every time, that wasn't fun, it was a pain in the ass.
Not saying it shouldn't have some sense of accomplishment, but even a prompt saying, "You have enough materials to make 20 of these. Synth 20? Y/N" would have been awesome.
To be perfectly honest, most of the fanboi's and fangirls from FF just heard about how easy leveling was in WoW and just passed the entire game off as an "EZMODE GAME!" when raiding in WoW is more challenging than anything SE has put out that wasent retarded like AV or PW in their hey-days.
To touch on the crafting aspect more from WoW, yes you need massive amounts of resources to power level crafts, infact, its the complete opposite as it would be in FFXI/FFXIV crafting because in WoW it costs MORE gold in the earlier stages of crafting than later because normally there is less supply of old content materials for the beginning levels which are pretty ridiculous prices compared to current content materials. Current content materials are really only expensive at the beginning of either the patch they debut in or early expansion as new materials, it gets cheaper the longer the expansion goes to actually finish power leveling a craft up.
The buff's you get from crafting in WoW is why I say its a way better system than both FFXI/FFXIV and for those who say, FFXIV's craft system is so awesome, its not, its so tedious that people either botted it to cap or used a turbo controller to spam one button over standard synthesis while watching a movie. There is nothing special about FFXIV crafting system, it was a terrible grind with a terrible mini game where lots of people just botted it, read gulkeeva's post about how bad botting crafting is in FFXIV.
I feel like that defeats the point completely.
All it takes to level a craft if you're using the right recipes is mashing Enter. You don't even need to choose the synth anymore. Why is that so much better than the game asking me if I want to do 30 synths, then doing them for me? Even if it takes an hour to finish them.
I know people who leave their turbo controller on before going to bed. Great game design there. At least let us automate the process without having to buy hardware.
At least I've gone through 3-4 shows and countless movies I wanted to watch thanks to crafting, but I also think that when you need to hide the game in order to make the game bearable, something is wrong.
