    Fixing a laptop keyboard

So, I stupidly spilled pop on my laptop today.
Many of the keys no longer work correctly or at all.

Everything else seems to be fine, however I restarted it and once it rebooted up, it didnt even get on the logon screen before it froze and just started beeping real loud. I shut it off and restarted again but this time it restarted just fine.

Ignoring the fact that there might be another major problem, would there be a way to fix or replace the keyboard in the laptop? Currently I'm using my wireless keyboard to type on it.

It's a Toshiba, not really sure what kind of toshiba laptop. Satellite A505 I think?
Going to restart it again to see if that problem happens again, but I'm moving a lot of my stuff to usb drives just incase I lose everything

Laptop keyboards are relatively inexpensive, and usually simple to replace. You usually just remove a panel above the keyboard to reveal the screws holding it down, and then lift the board out and unplug a ribbon cable. Some laptops require you to remove screws from the bottom that hold the boards down instead, usually behind the battery and RAM panels.

If you got soda on the motherboard, that could be causing the lockup, and then you will need a new board, or a new computer. Beeping like that is usually an error indicator for a hardware problem, with the length and number of beeps telling what is wrong. Keyboards are usually $25-50 + shipping, in my experience.

Don't want to sound pessimistic, but a loud sound indicates a hardware problem, like Bungie said the pattern of beeps is actually an error code. When its a laptop a board replacement could cost more than the laptop itself (water damage = no warranty).

For future reference, never operate a computer after you spill something on it. Immediately cut all power, remove battery and do NOT open it for at least 48 hours. A Soda damage is generally more severe than a water damage (because of the sugar and stuff it contains)

This is extremely important. Using electronics with water in them is a very easy way to destroy them. Cutting power until all water is definitely gone can frequently save them.

The problem with a soda or coffee spill is the acidity of the liquid contents, and the hardening of any sugar that might be in it. The acidity can short the board by etching it, and the sugar can connect circuits. You want to tear apart the machine and clean everything ASAP after a soda spill. If it's just water, you just need to make sure it can dry out in short order before the water can oxidize anything (so put it in a warm dry room). Soda probably killed the motherboard if it flowed out of the keyboard, and it will definitely have killed any circuitry inside the keyboard.

There's a reason my computer desk is so cluttered you cannot put a cup on it. No open drinks are allowed anywhere near my computer desk, so nobody can cause a spill. The clutter is a big "there's no space to put a drink here, so don't do it" sign.
