Why all the negativity?
because, besides the last stand, and dungeon crawling (We all know how that "personalized random dungeons" turned out *rolleyes*,) there really isn't anything here. Level 99, cool. I still haven't leveled most of my jobs to 95 because I'm too busy with school, and when I have free time, I just don't see a point to log on to the game anymore. Abyssea is still fun, I still have stuff I need to finish, but it's gotten pretty stale and boring. I personally hate VW, and if that's the main core endgame they're adding, then I'm really not interested in it at all.
Also incredibly disappointed that they're changing things back to how they were pre-abyssea, with horrible drop rates, refusing to listen to their player base, etc.
I can't wait until I "forget" to add crysta to my account. :D (Weren't they going to FUCKING FIX THIS? WHY HAVE THEY NOT FIXED THIS YET. WHY. Also, where the fuck is that fucking favorite atma menu stuff they promised)
How much is enough then? If Last stand and dungeon crawling (2 possible end game events), updates to limbus, nyzul and einherjar (more floors/chambers), isn't enough in 6 months.. then I just don't know what is. That's not even counting the merit / 2 hour updates, new WSs, lvl caps, and all that other stuff. I think the only complaint that I saw that actually made sense to me, was a lack of a story coming out (although even if it never adds up to expansion stories, maybe voidwatch will pick up, or the last stand will have something cool, considering its some new bad ass zone).
Seriously though, and I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, but how much is enough? We know next to nothing about dungeon crawling and the last stand, and people just assume it will suck, then don't count it as anything.
Its about time they let us join Jeuno if we've gotten the 3 nations at rank 10. Something like "You've shown your neutrality by assisting all the great nations" You are made an official emissary for the Duchy. Make the quests trying to prevent a hostile takeover by one of the cites, or be an ambassador to the beastmen. Or maybe researching vanished/dying mobs (porrogo, sanghin). Tie it in with Aht Urghan. You are no longer a mercenary trying to bring them together, but an official with real power. Give me a few days and I'm sure I could come up with something real.
I was thinking a while back, if it'd be a good idea for them to just unlock another 2 merits every five levels once we get above 75.
That way, by the time we get to 99 we'd just be able to merit all of them to 5.
It doesn't work out perfectly, but they could just have a quest or something that unlocks the last 2 merit increase.
One of the reasons they don't add more story is because the majority of people who play the game don't care about the story. I'd personally love a new expansion pack or even just a new expansion scenario with a fleshed out storyline, but I can't really see it happening. I remember there was a set of statistics that was released at some point (maybe in one of the census) which showed progression in the various expansion packs, and the progression statistics of people toward the end of WotG was abysmally low. WotG has a quite good and fairly intricate storyline, especially if you do all of the nation quests as well (aside from a couple of super lame time-padding missions near the very end), and like practically no one finished it. ToAU had a fairly low completion statistic as well, though not as low as WotG. I'm sure that a fairly large amount of players only progressed in CoP for sea access and RotZ for sky access. How many people got sky access and didn't do the last ZM until it was required for Apocalypse Nigh? So I could understand not devoting their apparently limited development resources toward new storyline when they would expect that the vast majority of players wouldn't really care.
All that being said, their attempts at introducing storyline to the new content (Voidwatch, Abyssea) come across as REALLY FREAKING LAME and almost a slap in the face to people who do like the story content.
I think the problem with WotG was that it took freaking three years for SE to even finish, so I'm sure a lot of people just never did it because they got tired of waiting and lost interest or figured they would wait until it was done so they could just do all the missions straight through without having to wait months to do the next set of 5 missions or however many would get added each update.
Also, most of the CSs in WotG were about three times longer than would have been necessary to convey all the same information/sentiments. There are few things more annoying to me than sitting there spamming X through a CS thinking to myself, "If I were a director, I would have cut the last five minutes of CS because it adds nothing and takes up time."
One of the things that annoyed me with WotG is that in one cutscene you could easily be forced to zone 3 or 4 times before completing that one cutscene.
It's probably because of lolPS2 limitations or some crap, but it made sitting through the cutscenes rather annoying.
Well the main problem with the length is that they aren't voice acted. It is kind of frustrating when you're trying to get into the story and you're confronted with walls of text over and over. The worst is when they try to make each character's speech unique by giving them some kind of "accent" which essentially only makes it more difficult to try to understand what the hell is going on (except for the dancer guy, trying to figure out what he was saying was often hilarious). I still liked the WotG storyline though, I thought that especially the San d'Oria and Windurst nation quest lines from WotG were top notch.
The true issue with WotG missions is that you can't help other people with a nation mission unless you've beaten it yourself.
The difference here is that you're only required to go through 1 nation's storyline to progress with the main WotG plot. And chances are your friend will be doing a different nation's path so u can't help him. (of course I've done all 3 but 99% of the ppl I've spoken to in this game say they don't play for the story)
Mentioned in the Dev tracker thread, but here's a screenshot:

Was almost a given that alexndrite would drop in the new Nyzul. Can't wait to try out the new floors~!
Merits, 2 hour upgrades, exp, isn't really "new content", I mean, sure, it's content, but it's not like, actual content you'll be doing, like say, salvage back in the old days, or abyssea when it came out.
A better way to say it, I guess, it's content that improves your character directly, but it's not something you "do". At the moment, I have no desire to logon, having new toys, but doing the same old stuff, doesn't really interest me.
And I honestly don't count touching up old content as new content. -_- they're all just fixes which should have been done ages ago.
so adding new content to old content isnt new content? np
I wasn't referring to the set bonus, but the awesomeness that was the entire set. At level 75, you needed some combination of Refresh, Ballad, and/or Evoker's Roll in order to keep Avatars out full time. At 95 avatars are pretty much free or give you MP back, and I mean outside of Abyssea and before casting refresh on yourself. (And you can cast refresh on yourself and have convert too boot.) It is so much easier to play the job now than it was at 95.
I did all three nation storyline quests as they came out, and it was not easy. I like to tell people that if for nothing else, they should do the story lines for the retrace staves. (Not that people are going to care about those anymore...)
