Chronicle screenwriter Max Landis has been hired by Fox to write the sequel to the superhero sci-fi film. The first film opened up last month and has made over $105 million dollars, which pretty good for only a $12 million dollar investment.

I enjoyed watching the first film that starred Dane DeHaan, Alex Russell and Michael B. Jordan, who played three high school friends that accidentally obtained telekinetic superpowers. Because of this heir lives start going out of control on a downward spiral as their friendship is tested and one begins to explore the dark side and starts to take his aggression out on innocent people. His friends are forced to stop him.

The end of the film was left wide open for a sequel, so it makes sense that it's happening and that Landis will be writing it. The first film was entertaining, and I imagine the sequel will be just as fun. I do hope they ditch the found footage camera style the second time around.

Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment acquired a pitch from Landis called Amnesty last year that Ron Howard is attached to direct. Then early this year Disney grabbed an untitled adventure pitch from Landis as well.

I don't have high hopes for any sequel, but I really do hope they don't fuck this up. Chronicle was a great movie.

This. Needs to be a prequel sequel, cause imo the ending didn't leave much else to be done unless they went with the whole "He's now a superhero" theme, which is pretty lame imo.

It caved in and dissapeared remember? That's why they bought a new camera, they lost the original in the cave-in; and they also make comments about how they couldn't believe they made it out of there alive, etc. They make us assume the "thing" was a consumable item, and after they used it it went poof =(.

Although now that I think about it, the sequel could be a true sequel, with the first being "found footage", and the sequel being what they did with the found footage. I actually think that might work out...

There were helicopters and a bunch of cops around too, assuming the men in black took it also works for sequel purposes.

I saw this the other day and enjoyed it immensely. I used to daydream about having powers like that as a kid and to see it in such a way on a big screen was very enjoyable. However, like KuroTsuki I laughed at the part where he flew out the window. It looked so cheesy, But overall well done and I hope for a sequel.

For those that didn't read through the original script, there were a number of things left out of the final cut of the movie that could springboard a sequel:

    Spoiler: show
The "thing" was some sort of lonely entity from space that linked the kid's consciousness to itself.

Once Matt has the utter shit beaten out of him during the climax, the military captures and experiments on him until he realizes some sort of super regenerative power, wastes the science team and peaces out (I imagine they scraped the regen powers based on the scar he's got during the closing of the movie, but they could still play up the military tracking him down).

Matt using his powers to play superhero, saving some korean town from a flood.
