I just read an article talking about how the show is slipping in the ratings and how it may be in trouble. Of course the article decided it must be due to the "poor plots" and "too many characters" .... which is completely wrong ... I'd bet it's this dumb 2-4 week gapping between episodes that every show seems to be doing today.

Am I going senile before I turn 30 or am I correctly remembering a time long ago when spring and fall segments of shows were actually contiguous ... only interrupted by maybe a World Series or Super Bowl or major holiday.

They used to be longer too, at least I thought they did. Seems like now they show 16ish eps and call it a season (less for HBO/SHO, etc). Seems like they all used to be ~24.

I feel like the networks have started scheduling by closing their eyes and throwing darts at calendars to see when they should air episodes.

OK ... so apparently I am senile.

I decided to go look at wiki at old shows that I distinctly remember running like clockwork ... i.e. every week without interruption. I checked shows like Family Matters, Step by Step, Full House, Dinosaurs ... etc. So it seems those shows did in fact run like clockwork, appearing every week without fail (save for Christmas break) from September to February ... then BAM ... the last 2-5 episodes of a season of every one of these shows suddenly go into a phase of 2-4 week gaps making some shows take 3 months to get out the last few episodes. So it looks like I didn't remember or notice.

Of course, shows back then seemed to take only 1-2 weeks for Christmas ... these days shows seem to love to skip up to three months ... so I guess that's the one downgrade we've gotten.

It's all a ratings game. Networks delay shows to accommodate Sweeps. That's why all the networks place their heavy hitters at November and May so they can use it to gauge their advertisement plans and rates.

And it's freakin annoying too ugh.

Which brings up a good, but off show topic, of how in the hell are Nielsen ratings and sweeps still a thing? I mean, we're in the goddam digital age where we can track every microsecond of television viewing and streamed content and yet we still calculate show ratings via sampling selected households and completely ignoring streamed content (they still ignore it right?).

One of my friends recently got some kind of TV tracking thing sent to him where he gets paid based on how long he collects data ... so he just makes sure its doing its thing even when he isn't actually watching anything. Great system you have there.

Yup unfortunately its still a thing..If you look at the timing of most breaks they coincide perfectly with sweeps timings =/

About twice a year I get a "Neilson journal" that you are suppose to hand write in what you watch and when (even streaming). I always open them because there is always about $5 dollars in them but never fill them out.

Yeah, that's the sweeps form ... they still do that by good ol' pen and paper. They don't use their electronic tracking boxes for sweeps.

Filming for the Once Upon a Time spin-off — currently titled Once Upon a Time in Wonderland — is beginning soon, so it's no surprise that new information is rolling in all of the time. We've decided to step back and take stock of what we already know. Plus, there's some exciting news regarding a certain fan favorite villain — Cora (Barbara Hershey)!

Okay, let's go over what we know about the spin-off as of today, April 4, 2013.

It's anthology style. The series, if it gets picked up, will run for 13 episodes. Right now, reports suggest that it would run this winter, during Once Upon a Time's winter hiatus. Rumors have it that the idea is for the show to be anthology style, with each season having a solid beginning, middle, and end (think American Horror Story.)

It's not a done deal. Some key players from the OUAT team are currently working on a teaser presentation for the ABC execs, who will then decide if they want to see a full pilot. So this show is far from a done deal.

It's about Alice in Wonderland. The spin-off teaser pilot that's being filmed is set in Wonderland. The show will apparently involve seeing Wonderland both pre- and post-curse, using a flashback structure similar to OUAT.

Meet the cast. Many of the key characters have been cast, including Alice herself. Check them out.

So, is Cora involved? While Barbara Hershey is not part of the mini-presentation, OUAT co-creator Eddy Kitsis told TVLine that "we can’t imagine visiting that time in Wonderland and not seeing Cora as the Queen of Hearts." It sounds like they hope to get Barbara Hershey on board if the show gets picked up.
