iirc they aren't really going anywhere except to be stationed in kuwait, where the training missions for iraqis troops and drone/air support sorties can still be flown.

well, theyr'e based there, but it's not like they won't be continuing the same mission. still, based in (nominally) friendly country is better than living full time in iraq, will not contest that.
it's also entirely possible the mission WILL actually end, considering the sticking point was the inability to come to a SOFA, not any desire to get the troops out of the country. no SOFA is pretty much the deal-killer.
yes lets thank the bush admin for setting up a scheduled withdrawal from the war they got us in
They scheduled us to withdraw troops 10 years after the fact?
i dunno that i'd say thanks were exactly in order/whatever, but yes, this was a scheduled draw-down. etc.
Good thing we're no where near election time, or I might be concerned that this had more to do with building up a re-election campaign than the good of the American people.
Actually the administration wanted them to stay, it has to do with the fact that Iraq wants American troops who commit war crimes to be put on trial instead of having nothing happen. They couldn't come to an agreement so we are pulling out.
edit:
Good Article about it
From what i've heard is that the Iraqi government told us to gtfo and Obama is taking credit for it lol? Not sure how true that is.
