My favourite crockpot meal is tortellini and meatballs. I go all store bought. I buy a jar of spaghetti sauce, coat the inside of the pot, add a layer of store bought tortellini, and a layer of store bought meatballs, then noodles again, and then meatballs, etc, until it reaches the top, toss on a bunch of grated cheese, then cook until I can't resist the smell anymore. It's not chef-like or particularly homemade, but I like it.
No one has suggested anything for breakfast but here is the best oatmeal I have ever had. It is creamy but still has some texture in the larger pieces of oat.
1 cup steel cut oats
2 cups milk (1% is fine if you don't want the fat)
2 cups water
salt to taste ( I use a heavy pinch)
Cook on low for 6 hours or high for 4. Last 30 minutes you can stir in some dried fruit, your choice. If you have a large crock pot you need to increase the amount of the recipe in the same ration as above. The crock pot needs to be filled close to the top.
Serve with brown sugar, or maple syrup and milk.
I make this ahead of time and then just heat in the microwave when I am ready for breakfast. Once you have it made it is a quick tasty breakfast for a couple days.
I've tried slow cooking eggs, like in a water bath. But you need fancier shit then I have apparently because mine never had the firm outside and lava inside like I wanted.![]()
BBQ sauce is added after the meat is cooked and after you pull the pork. Just put the pulled pork back in the pot with the sauce and cook for another half hour. You should use a fattier cut of meat. Tenderloin is too lean and your meat will be too dry. You can get cut out the fat when you're pulling the pork. Also, as stated in my earlier post, add a little liquid smoke to your cooking.
There's a trick to boiling eggs. Prepare a large container full of ice water beforehand. Put eggs in pot of cold water, bring to a boil, then immediately turn off heat, cover the pot and leave it alone for 10 minutes (for hard boiled, 5 mins for liquid yolk). Dump eggs in ice bath and leave in fridge for a bit. The ice bath prevents latent heat from overcooking the egg. Afaik there's no way to do it in a slow cooker.
A slow-cooker, I imagine could be used to make some sloppy-lookin' poached eggs... maybe.
Browsed the SA forum linked in the first post for a while, and that first recipe they use with the chicken breasts + salsa dumped over them sounded good, but I think I'll try putting some onions, scallions, bell peppers, a little habanero or hot sauce, plenty of cilantro and some minced garlic in there and put it all in a soft shell taco. The chicken will cook fine over 6-7 hours, right?
Made pot roast tonight because of this thread lol
What you wanted is not slow cooked, it's more like soft-cooked.
Check out http://www.voltaggiobrothers.com/pos...a-6-minute-egg
Slow cooked however is awesome as well, called Osen Tamago, 140F water for 40 minutes.
I just made 2 eggs. Fuck yes. All eggs from here on out will be made like this
Shamelessly bumping this shit up.
I'm cooking some rootbeer pork shoulder at the moment in the crockpot
3lb bone-in (Moar flavor!) pork shoulder
2 20oz bottles Barq's Root Beer
I got some garlic and pushed em into the shoulder before cooking. I seared the shoulder and put it in the pot with the root beer.
It smells goddamn awesome in my apartment right now.
Gonna shred that bish and reduce the root beer a bit and probably ruin it for a sauce but you can't win unless you try!
root beer BBQ sauce go!
I actually ended up doing that! I reduced the root beer and mixed it with my favorite BBQ sauce. Turned out pretty damn good, the pork was flipping amazing. Had leftovers through this weekend.
Chicken Adobo
Ingredients
1 small sweet onion,
sliced
8 cloves garlic, crushed
3/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
1/2 cup vinegar
1 (3 pound) whole chicken, cut into pieces
Directions
Place chicken in a slow cooker. In a small bowl mix the onion, garlic, soy sauce, and vinegar, and pour over the chicken. Cook on Low for 6 to 8 hours.
Yes but the bones add a lot of flavor to the chicken. I like to toss in a couple of bay leaves into my adobo.
I have no experience with Adobo or green chili. Basically Southwestern food. Is it like Mexican or like barbeque?
