I'm having a hard time linking the restriction on owning moon rocks to the stiffling of private enterprise in space.

the two aren't related. as of yet, the only trips to the moon have been by the government, so any moon rocks are public property and selling them privately should be very illegal. when commercial flights to the moon start happening, which should be pretty soon in fact, then those moon rocks can surely be sold.

Invest in stars now, that way when humans can inhabit planets belonging to that star's system you can charge them for heat.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Still, NASA has given hundreds of lunar samples to nations, states and high-profile individuals but only on the understanding they remain government property. NASA's inspector general works to arrest anyone trying to sell them.

It very well could have been. I doubt any federal agencies would have an issue with people giving moon rocks away. They are simply indignant when people try to sell them for personal gain, because that's not what the Apollo program stood for.

I honestly thought Moon Rock was code for crack when I first read the title of this thread. After the kids, it's always the old people trying to act cool and getting into those awful awful rap videos. They just try too hard to impress their kids and they end up taking this shit wayyyy too far. Poking holes in their socks and pimping their their rides (aka wheelchairs). Someone ought to censor what they watch.

They haven't let it leak yet, but the moon is actually made out of crack.

Well, it's more that he can "give" it to anyone he wants, it just remains the property of the U.S. government and therefore can't be sold - just like the moon rocks we've given to other nations.
