"So, here's the thing.
If you're at a "loading" screen prior to/during the first mission and it bugs out/kicks you/you quit, that character becomes bugged.
You might start noticing stuff, like : You'll see repeats of your character getting into the first race car. You'll get a bugged instance, and not be able to see the marker, etc.
Once a character is bugged, it cannot be fixed. Waiting will never fix it.
You need to delete the character, make a new one, and in that same instance of creating the character, wait it out.
If you get to a screen with people standing around prior to the race, do not quit. Wait up to ~20 minutes if you have to. You'll get into the race eventually.
Basically, if you're screwed up, delete the character and start over, and do not quit any loading screens.
If that character gets an error during loading/first mission and gets kicked, DELETE HIM AND START OVER. Don't waste time trying, the character could be bugged.
Confirmed numerous times on R* forums. Also, me and a friend spent ~6.5 hours trying to get him through, then used this method and were in in 20 minutes.

I was able to get in last night. I was on the screen waiting with other characters. Then the race menu popped up and I was in.
After multiple system restarts and waiting.

The only time it let me into the actual game(PS3) last night it never even took me to the character creation screen. I just ended up with some randomly created bald chick with red headphones. Then she walked into the blue circle and it did nothing for about a half hour before I quit completely.

Adding to the "delete and start over" tip: when creating a character, just skip it and click save and continue if you dont want to waste time having to recreate the same one over and over. After about 12 hours from when you create a character, the game will alert you and ask if there's any changes you want to make and will tell you that this is the only time you'll get to change your character. You can fully change everything (gender, heritage, stats) once you get the prompt, so just customize it at that time.

I've determined that at $5k a pop per death, plus buying guns, I am never going to be able to afford buying the country club without using some kind of exploits.

It's a horrible investment anyway. It returns as much as the movie theater but costs more than 7 times as much.

i started a mission where i needed to get some drugs from a guy but i couldnt fucking get him to stop even when all 4 of his tires were bent and not working his car was faster than everything i pulled out. i was like WELL OKAY

Stocks.

If you invest prior to assassinations you can walk away with something like 1.5 billion or more. You will actually have too much money to spend. Even if you invest immediately after, you won't profit as much (If you invest prior you can see up to 82% returns) but you will still profit significantly. The trick is to save the assassinations until you are forced to do them (nothing else left on any character) in order to advance. Think about that 80% return mark, some are in the range of 50% but many increase all the way to 80%. Start out with 100-500k on each character with those returns, then when you have a couple mil imagine the returns. Now think about when you end up with around 100-300million and are going to get a 50-80% return.

Its hard coded into the game and will always work, and even with the 150mil property, hangars, and online rare vehicles, you will still have outrageous money left over.
