Laptop Display Driver Issue - Help

Hey everyone. I am having a little issue with one of my 3 laptops. It is an ASUS N53JF-A1. I have listed the build below.

So the machine works fine. There has been no operating issues, but every now and then (sometimes as frequent as every 10 minutes while playing or as infrequent as once a day) the screen will go to static (looks like white noise on a television) and blink different colors. After it does this, sometimes it will recover. But sometimes it will not - making me force a reboot. During an occurrence, I tested it by e-mailing myself - all inputs to the machine are still in operation. I am almost 100% positive this has to do with the video display driver.

Has anyone run into this before? It almost seems like its a compatibility issue, but I am not sure. I would love to fix this myself since I would have to ship it to the service department in California and I live in Boston.

Try the newest drivers from here, released 10/24:

    http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-wi...ql-driver.html

If that doesn't work, you can download a version of the same driver modified for laptops here:

Ok so did the above. That fixed the display crash issue. However, another issue came up. Upon rebooting - the system is dragging extremely slow to get to the main screen. For example, itll be stuck on the windows load for like 5 minutes. So it seems this is most likely related to a hard drive issue. I got the Seagate diagnostic and it says I passed the Short, Long, and Basic tests. However, when I run a short DST it is saying I failed and suggesting me to download a BIOS image to boot with. This may be a bit off topic, but has anyone seen this before? And is there anything I can do other than run multiple diagnostics?

I'm having issues similar to the OP (Don't want to make a separate thread for that reason) except that it's been happening a lot. Last night, I think the issue hit the pinnacle when the got a blue screen (idk if it's "the" blue screen) that prompted me to do some memory tests and such. I let the machine do that while I went to the bathroom and came back to a black screened laptop. Whenever I turn on the laptop, I get either mildly light lines with a light black background or just a light black background. It seems that I can use my external monitor and use the laptop as normal, but there is a display issue when using the laptop's screen. How can I fix that?

As an update - it was a HDD failure that was causing this. I was able to get the replacement HDD - should be here within a week.

Yugl - I suggest doing what I did. Go to your devices/drivers, see what your driver is called. Google it, find the manufacturer. Go to the manufacturer's website. They have diagnostics for their drivers you can download from their site. So search around, and download. Once you get that installed, run the diagnostic tool and see where your failure is (if no failure - yay!). If you have some sort of test failure, take down the failure code. Reach out to who you purchased your laptop from (service department) if you are still under warranty, or directly to the manufacturer if you are under their warranty.

The issue fixed itself after a huge cooldown period it seems (LCD shows DELL at least when I turn on the laptop).
