The irony of signing Pujols: The first game will be against STL in miami.

    lol

There's a preseason favorite every single year for every single sport, and generally that favorite doesn't win the championship. That's the reason the games are played. Nobody called the Phillies a dream team, and Vince Young was the one who referred to the Eagles as one. Do you take VY seriously?

If the Packers lose in the NFC Championship game, are you going to refer to them as a dream team and compare them to the Eagles, too?

So being 4-8 and missing the playoffs is like having the best record in baseball at 102-60 and losing a 5th game of an LDS 1-0? k

I didn't hear any Eagles fans, or more importantly Eagles players, objecting to the self-imposed title until it all started going south. Yes, people did call the Phillies a dream team and said they had arguably the best rotation in MLB history. No one called the Packers a dream team. More importantly, no one on the Packers referred to themselves as the Dream Team. Nice try at your faulty logic though, broham.

Did I say they were the exact same or did I say they were similar in being anointed a dream team and falling short of expectations? How short one fell vs the other is irrelevant. I was picking out similarities not absolutes.

You cry when it is used properly anyways, so what's the difference. Doesn't take away from the fact what you posted was completely retarded.

You live in Texas, why would you hear Eagles fans doing anything? I live in South Jersey and frequent Philadelphia. I work at Eagles games. No one espouses the Dream Team rhetoric except those who mock it.

As for the '11 Phillies, they DID have one of the best rotations in history, even though the statistical evidence (for the full season) eludes me right now.

the rangers lost the world series twice in a row, what a dream team they are

Doing very well and making the playoffs is why the Eagles comparison is fucking stupid, and the Heat comparison is pretty close.

Because the internet doesn't exist, it is impossible for me to witness any Philly fans anoint the Eagles as the dream team in agreeance with Vince Young. Gotcha. Eagle fans do not exist outside of Philadelphia. Gotcha.

Edit: The Eagles crashed and burned starting game 2 of the season. The dream team rhetoric didn't even get a chance to take flight past the preseason. So working at the Eagles games is irrelevant. But you once seeing Kevin Kolb sporting a Phillies hat outside the visitor's locker room gives you all the credibility you need. Thumbs up!

Oh, were making the playoffs not an expectation of the Phillies prior to the acquisition of Cliff Lee? It was World Series or bust of that offseason move, you can deny it all you want but they fell short of expectations. Like I said, I pointed out similarities, not absolutes. Get called the dream team? Check. Big FA moves? Check check. Expectations not met? triple check. I also never discounted the Heat comparison but by all means, blend in with the lynch mob. The Rangers fell short of expectations too if you want to hop on with Skirk and refute my statements towards Philly by attacking my team instead.

Rangers played above expectations too. If you thought before the season they were going back to the World Series without Cliff Lee you were delusional. I didn't even think it was guaranteed if they did get Lee back - just winning your division is hard enough in baseball.

Expectations are starting to shift for the Rangers though.

Why are you arguing this, there's no reasonable comparison between the two teams except A) they play across the street from each other, and B) neither won a championship this year. One team was very, very good last year, and the other is not good. They are apples and oranges. The Phillies lived up to their hype of being a World Series contender by winning more games than every other team, having a prolific pitching rotation, and an average-to-decent offense that was exposed in a short series. The fact that they did not ultimately win does not make them comparable to the Eagles, who were branded Super Bowl contenders and is now a .500 or worse team.

The point I was making in my original post (which I really shouldn't have to explain to you) was that the hype the Marlins are drawing will result in a not-good team, rather than a good team. Get it?

    For reference:
1: Every team has the ultimate goal of winning their sport's championship.
2: All but one team will do so.

    Expectation =! Goal

No one is looking at the Houston Astros or Seattle Mariners and saying they will win the championship next year although both aspire to. I get your original point. I went out on a tangent to poke fun at your baseball team while also drawing a valid comparison in my eyes. You and others disagree, more power to you.

Or when the other party is too retarded to see past their own homerism and you're just sick and tired of arguing in circles around it.

that's fair, but not applicable in this case. the phillies aren't the eagles. the red sox would be baseball's version, and even that isn't too great a comparison
