Rollins is staying with the Phillies, or at least that is what the Brewers are hearing, tweets Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Haudricourt adds that the Brewers are unlikely to sign free agent Rafael Furcal, which leaves the Brewers out looking for a shortstop without a major name left on the market.

Also,

Ryan Madson remains on the open market, but with the Toronto Blue Jays acquiring Sergio Santos this week, Madson's market shrank by one. Still, the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels are interested.

CBSSports.com's Danny Knobler tweets Wednesday however, that with David Ortiz back in the fold -- he accepted arbitration -- the Red Sox have limited flexibility and could be out on Madson as a result.

Boston has been linked to Carlos Beltran and Michael Cuddyer, among others, for right field but it appears Ryan Kalish and Josh Reddick will begin spring training vying for the gig.

Madson still figures to get a multi-year deal from someone worth $10 million or more per season, so accepting arbitration doesn't appear to be an option for him at this stage.

The Sox are considering their options, including using Daniel Bard at closer or transitioning him to the rotation if they find answers in the eighth and ninth innings.

With all the contract escalations, the Brewers basically have the same payroll right now, without Fielder or signing anyone, that they had last season. People keep talking about them signing Aramis Ramirez, and I have no idea where that money is going to come from.

Dumb question, but is there a reason why you never see a contract front loaded? Would think it would make it easier for a team to drop a bad contract in later years if needed. Player still gets the same amount of money, and at least imo works out better in giving a team flexibility.

Players are probably less likely to accept front-loaded contracts because although they get the bulk of their money early, they might want the job security for the reasons you just mentioned. At least, that's my theory.

There seems to be a greater incentive to perform if the larger sums of money come in the latter years of the contract. If I'm an owner, I would have it back heavy as well so if they aren't living up to the contract, then you can buy them out then renegotiate a fair market value instead of paying someone superstar money who isn't deserving.

Doesn't work on all players. Please reference Rowand, Zito, Zambrano, Vernon Wells, etc. Practically unmovable, really no chance of improvement (either skill wise or chemistry in the clubhouse) and handcuffs the team. As is the only buyouts are option years and by then they've already gotten the money.

If the Marlins can trade Hanley and his salary -- he's owed $46 million over the next three seasons--their hope is to use that $ on Fielder.

The Marlins just spent $191 million on an aging closer with declining peripherals, a SS who can't stay on the field, and a #3 quality SP. Man at least when Ruben Amaro throws out ridiculous contracts they are to truly elite players (except Ryan Howard.......).

They just spent 200 million and Hanley wants some of the new found money to move to third. They have a team full of head cases lead by a head case manager.

That's pretty silly if you ask me, especially about Davis. Both guys are young enough to be part of a playoff contender in 3-4 years if they really are rebuilding.

I like cashing in on Pagan though, don't think his value would get any higher.
