I can't see why we'd sign Sizemore other than being a pinch hitter or a 4th OFer...
Speculation is we'll either resign Ortiz, and have Kalish or Reddick in RF... or not resign Ortiz, sign Cuddyer and rotate Youkilis/Cuddyer at 3B/DH and Cuddyer/Kalish or Reddick at RF.
Quade out as cubs manager fuck yeah.
Wonder who Theo will choose to replace him.
Tito? Or maybe Joe madden? Jim Leyland?
Any other managers under contract that we can snag from another team?
I hope the Red Sox refuse when the Cubs ask permission to offer Dustin Pedroia a promotion to player/manager/team-captain.
Theo wanted to hire Ryne Sandberg to manage the Red Sox' AAA team. With Sandberg's ties to the Cubs, I'd have to think he is the favorite.
Tito is probably going to take a year off. He's going through a ton of personal issues (marital problems, health issues).
Cubs released a press release saying the guy needs previous major league managerial experience. So ryno is out.
If the Cubs hire Joe Maddon I'm going to have to take a week off from work just to fap.
According to my sources. Cardinals have ask permission to interview ryno. Fml
No way the Cubs get Joe Maddon.
Tampa isn't letting him go, and he has said he doesn't want to leave anyway.
Not happening, unless you're going to gift wrap Starlin Castro, and even then - I think Maddon would be a bigger deal to TB, with what he's done with that team.
Edit: Ryno to STL, Cubs lure LaRussa out of retirement? (Not serious.)
Managerial or coaching experience. It still exclude Sandberg, but could include a lot of other guys, like Joe Maddon's bench coach Dave(?) Martinez - who the Red Sox might look at... Pete Mackanin, another Red Sox candidate... guys like that... I've heard Mike Maddux mentioned a bit as well..."We are looking for someone with whom and around whom we can build a foundation for sustained success. The next manager must have leadership and communication skills; he must place an emphasis on preparation and accountability; he must establish high standards and a winning culture; he must have integrity and an open mind; and he must have managerial or coaching experience at the major league level."
Even still, I wouldn't take the statement as gospel. If they interview Sandberg and are impressed enough, they'll go with him.
Bad things happen when Ryne Sandberg leaves the Phillies
I hope Pete Mackanin gets hired by the Red Sox so we can promote Ryno and he can be Charlie's heir. He did a fantastic job in AAA this year.
Looks like bosox and the theos gonna be fighting over mike Maddox and sveum.
Homerism aside Don't know why someone would choose bosox over the theos. Bosox has better talent no doubt but Theos have a strong front offices now and the pressure to win now is stronger in boston as oppose to a couple of years for the Theos.
Kinda strange the Cubs even picked up that option... I guess it works out though, they don't need to pay Ramirez the $2M buyout now...The Cubs opted to pick up a one-year, $16 million 2012 option on Ramirez's contract this week, but Ramirez's agent Paul Kinzer told ESPN Chicago the two-time All-Star would trigger his own opt-out clause. Kinzer said Ramirez is seeking a multi-year deal on the open market.
He's still a Type-B free agent, so there should be a supplemental pick if they offer him arbitration.
