Victor Martinez out for the year.
Tigers say apparently someone looked at him the wrong way which caused him to tear his acl
Coal Hammels signed for 1 year, $15MM to avoid arb.
Should of signed him long-term.

And yea, Cole Hammels pretty much set what Lincecum and Cain are going to get this year. Cain will probably get 14-16m this year and Lincecum will probably be 18-19m. Thank god Rowand and Huff are off the books after this year and Zito the following year.
Brewers signed 1-year deal with K-Rod for 8M, avoiding arbitration (where he may have gotten 12M+) and have reached a multi-year deal with Aoki.
There are rumors floating around that he will sign a long term deal after the season starts so the Phillies can take advantage of the luxury tax loophole like Boston did with A Gon. Our payroll going into the season should be between $168-170 million so I guess Rube wants as much room as possible at the trade deadline.
Lincecum asked for 21.5 mil today. Pablo and Nate both signed to avoid arbitration.
Does it usually take the full 30 days to sign international players? The Rangers have until 5:00 EST today to sign Yu or his rights are retained by his Japanese club and the posting fee is refunded. Cutting it kind of close... they must have been far apart on the numbers.
If this doesn't get done its probably because the rangers got buyers remorse and are purposely sabotaging this to get the posting fee back.
I honestly thought that too. Or they would try to lowball Yu in order to alleviate the huge posting fee they offered. I like Yu, but not a $100M+ like. The alternative of Prince Fielder isn't much better monetarily, but at least he's proven in this league. Hopefully the Nationals or Mariners will overpay for Fielder so we don't have to. Win win.
The hangup isn't about the money, it's about years. Rangers want 6, Yu wants 5.
Deal is pretty much done though.
6 years it is for Yu.
He's no Aoki though (who apparently we got for a 2.5M post and 1.5M a year for 2 years + team option for 3rd)
$60M + $51.7M / 6 = $18.6/yr for an unproven guy...
/sigh
Add Lackey to that list. I hope Rangers fans get more for their posting fee than Sox fans did for Dice-k's posting fee.
Turns out it's actually five years with a player option that would bring it up to $60 million total. That really isn't a good buy for the Rangers. The 6th year is almost certainly somewhere around $15-20 million so there's a chance he will take it, so the scenarios are either that Darvish is a really good pitcher for five years at a cost of $18-20 million per year and then he enters the market, or that he isn't very good for six years at a cost of $18.7 million per year. Considering the downside because of his workload and the bust rates of young pitchers and Japanese pitchers, and the fact that most scouts really don't think he's got Cy Young potential, the upside is awfully limited.
Still hope the Rangers sign Fielder just so they win division and Pujols misses the playoffs.
