They are pocketing the amnesty card for 2012 free agency imo.

    They want Chandler, but...

Cuban wants to spend 11-12m/year on him so once Kidd and Terry come off the books next year and they amnesty Haywood/Matrix they can have space to get DWill or CP3.

But looks like he's going to want near max money, even if it's not a contender. I don't blame him, this is his first chance at a really big contract.

He's just not an offensive player and Dirk really needs someone to take the load off him offensively as he starts to fade from his prime in a few years. If they gave Chandler as much as Toronto or Houston can afford to give him then they'd be out of the 2012 free agent summer. Also kind of scared to give Chandler max money with his injury history.

Although having Dirk and Chandler makes it much more attractive for other free agents, crappy dilemma.

Kind of up to Tyson - stay on a contender for less money or go to a lottery team for max money.

Get nick young out of there! What a joke of a franchise.
My god, when you look at what he makes compared to NFL players, it makes me want another lockout.

Glad you finally got out of the padded room to post. W/o chandlers post presence the mavs are just a team in the playoffs.

Caron Butler has been working out in Chicago. Source close to him said he said this AM, "I hope I don't have to leave." #Bulls

All he has to do is pull a Carmelo.

By saying he's not signing an extension unless he goes to the Knicks, and that he will sign with the Knicks for less than max money, the threat that they will lose him for nothing pretty much forces the Hornets to deal him.

The Knicks have shit to offer true, but they are in a better position now relatively to the Carmelo situation. They were coerced into overpaying for Carmelo to make sure that the Nets didn't get him, but Paul doesn't seem to be playing any games with "Well Brooklyn/Boston is fine too..." The Knicks have no pressure to act so long as they can grab him as a free agent at discount. Plus even if Paul did want to yank the Knicks' chain, the fact Carmelo already destroyed the Knicks' roster changes the situation entirely. How are the Hornets going to play hardball?

That being said, I still don't think the Knicks go anywhere just because they acquire Paul, at least under No-D'antoni. Even if Paul's one of the best defensive PGs, Amar''''''''''e and Carmelo are allergic to defense leaving a big gaping hole in terms of guarding 2-5. They will outscore the shit out of everyone, especially during the season, but once they start getting shut down in the Playoffs the fact they can't shut anyone else down is going to kill them.

Howard clearly wants out at this point and time, and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't mind that out being the Lakers. Not to say that he can't go elsewhere, but I think the Lakers are somewhere close to the top on his personal list. He's said previously that the All-Star he wants to play with most is Kobe. Basically recreate the Shaq-Kobe big man and small man duo... with the big man being stolen from Orlando again.

And honestly, Odom and Bynum for Howard is one of the best deals Orlando could get. I'd take that over the Nets' offer of Lopez and two first rounders. Howard to the Lakers could and should happen, but probably won't because Jerry Buss's son is dumb and thinks Bynum can be a franchise cornerstone. So they will probably take a chance (and fail) at Bynum becoming a star rather than trading for a sure-fire one.

He probably ends up with the Nets because Russian-Cuban can give the second best offer, and he will have another Top-10 to play with. I really don't see him going to Dallas, but I also know not to underestimate Real-Cuban.

Also best case scenario for the Lakers is that Walton retires (he was told to retire, supposedly, by a few doctors over the summer, due to the constant pinched nerve that results in him being egregiously overpaid to sit in a suit on the sidelines) so they can waive Ron-ron. If they can somehow find a sucker to take Blake, they can make small upgrades to PG and SF.

(Also for those interested, Artest's new jersey will have "World Peace" on the back, not just Peace. I'm tempted to buy one for the novelty.)

Don't disagree, but Haywood is a starting caliber defensive center in this league so it wouldn't be a huge downgrade, he's just not as good as Chandler. He can't run out and guard players like LeBron/Wayde, and still get back to the rim in time like Chandler can.

Jim Buss supposedly said he will deal Bynum for "the right piece," aka D12

Walton retires, we keep World Peace, trade Bynum+Odom for Howard+Arenas, we amnesty Arenas, sigh the Baron to vet minimum and match offer for Shannon Brown with his bird right to back up Kob; Orlando amnesty Hedo and cut50 mil from the cap with Hedo and Arenas off the books and rebuild around great front court.

Tell me how this doesn't happen. You can't.

gredival, while i agree about cp3 being able to pull leverage out from under a rug on his team, so far it doesn't seem as though it's the case. first, players do change their minds about extensions. all the stuff cp3 said about not extending with boston is pretty much exactly what KG said before he eventually changed his mind. obviously that doesn't mean cp3 is not adamant (he very well could be), but there shouldn't be any absolutes in discounting where he's willing to extend.

second, he actually has listed teams other than the knicks he's willing to extend with (assuming one believes broussard). that for sure is the biggest killer in any strong-arm deal to the knicks. there is absolutely no reason for the hornets to trade cp3 for garbage when he, presumably, would be fine with another team that has far more to give.

and finally who is to say that a team wouldn't be willing to offload its assets for that single shot at going deep into the playoffs and eventually resigning him? that's what dallas was willing to do with carmelo last year, though it never happened. maybe david kahn somehow takes it to a whole new level of insane and believes that he'd love playing in minnesota and for adelman (that part maybe not so insane), and that he'd re-up with them. they certainly have enough assets to try.

anyway i agree with your premise in general but in this case i don't believe the leverage is on cp3's side, at least not nearly to the same level of carmelo.

i actually have heard that buss's son has finally relented on trading bynum. that's not to say it will actually happen, who really knows. and while it probably is one of the better deals, the clippers are said to be strongly going after d-ho as well and they can offer quite a bit more. that said, it probably won't happen without the extension agreement first and he's been said to be reticent on signing with them anyway.

The Record just learned Deron Williams WILL NOT Sign an extension with the Nets and will play the year out. Link coming shortly.

Russian Mark Cuban will make Deron disappear until he reemerges with a bunch of bruises he got "falling down a flight of stairs" and his signature on a new extension deal.

    Book it.

Thank the Gods if this is true but I hadn't heard of this.

I can't imagine anyone wanting to play for Sterling though. I predict that Griffin just eventually bolts rather than waiting for someone to join him.

We need a backup PF/C still though. Might not be able to match price on Brown, plus I bet Davis fails on us and pulls some Shaq-time stuff.

Not to mention our Coach issues.

Again, Lakers swap makes the most sense for Orlando which means it SHOULD happen. The biggest question has always been the misplaced faith that Jim Buss seems to put in Bynum.

I think it makes the Mavs scenario a lot more likely. You have to assume Howard doesn't land with the Nets, which would obviously get Deron to stay.

    lolClippers?

Any other teams with a big piece and cap room?

Would Orlando really let another superstar center go to the Lakers? If that happened, they should just get rid of the franchise.

which is more likely, we steal another top center from Orlando (D12) or another sports team from Minnesota (Vikings)?

    :D :D :D
