Better than taking on some shitty contracts. If I'm Orlando I either want a deal like Denver got for Melo (bunch of young guys + picks) or just let Howard walk, save the cap space, and burn it to the ground and start over. Including the GM.

Not being able to put enough talent around Dwight and screwing up on failed trades again and again should get him fired.

Except if they let Dwight walk they get that big cap space he was taking up, but now the team is shit. Seriously, whose the number 2 guy on that squad that can step up and be the franchise player? Are they gonna hope to get lucky in the draft? The Melo trade will seriously never happen again, the Knicks owner was a moron for approving it and noone is going to literally ship off their ENTIRE TALENT to get 1 guy. The GM should definitely be fired, to go from making the Finals in 2009 to how they are now is bad.

If it wasn't for the Shaq thing, I'd say just take the chance to see if he walks. But considering that happened with Shaq, Dwight walking would be a shitstorm of epic proportions if the Magic got absolutely nothing for him. That guy is not sticking around, even if you get fucking Bynum + some picks or Brook Lopez + whatever + some picks, you are gonna have more pieces to work and trade with than you would if he walked.

Kobe's ego won't ever allow this. He can and will take the game in his hands and drop 30-40+ to ensure victory. Until he has more rings than Jordan, nothing will stop him.

well it's not so much kobe's ego (though he certainly wouldn't allow it) but more the fact that while they're not as good as they used to be, they're not as bad as people think they are. they really just need one solid piece to become the team nobody wants to face in the playoffs. if the lakers got ramon sessions from cleveland that'd definitely kick them up a big notch. and as long as kobe is still productive and bynum is healthy, ownership is going to try and build a competitive team, irrespective of their fans wanting to rebuild.

i agree. if it weren't for the shaq thing i'd risk letting him walk in a normal draft year. if he wants to leave 30 million on the table then good for him. furthermore, the guy bitches and moans constantly about wanting to be the #1 guy (in crunch time no less, LOL). what does he think is going to happen if he joins up with dirk and d-will in dallas? MINIMUM he's going to be #3, and #4 in crunch time if they somehow signed the two and then jason terry on top. the guy doesn't give a fuck about anybody but himself so if i were a GM i'd love to call his bluff. unfortunately the small chance that he changes his mind would set back orlando and the way people view the franchise by decades, which pretty much means he has to be moved.

Melo trade: There isn't much to Felton and Mozgov anymore, so that trade comes down to Melo for Gallo and Wilson Chandler. Still a good trade for the Knicks.
