I dont get it. The pick is protected through 3 for the nets, but they're in 6th to last place right now - so the chances of them keeping the pick are pretty small, no?

i didn't see that it was top 3 protected. just assumed it was full lotto or at least top 10 since most bad teams never protect so lightly. but yeah if that's the case it's not a bad deal assuming it's for this draft. that said i thought the blazers should have tried to get better instead of giving up.

It is kinda unfortunate but Wallace was either going to opt in (he's been pretty awful this year) if he couldn't get a better deal elsewhere and screw over the cap space, or opt out and then the Blazers get nothing. I don't think this deal really hurts the blazers though since Batum is a better player anyway, and it frees up more minutes for him and possibly for Matthews at the 2. Before the hour's over expect Crawford to be gone, too.

It was probably the recognition he was getting rather than his actual role on the court. A lot of hurt egos when the underdog making the league minimum is on the cover of SI (twice) and in the spotlight nightly while the superstars and $100M men are in the shadows.

the pick from NJ is only top 3 protected, so its not that bad a trade. theyre getting a ton of expiring deals from the nets+rockets. So theyll try to be in the mix this summer for all the FAs
