In order of getting the "good" part of the deal its was Lakers > Rockets >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Hornets.
Plus the Hornets would have had Scola, Odom, and west. One or two of them would have gotten moved again.
Orlando will want Pau/Odom more than Bynum/Metta.NBA commissioner David Stern has killed the New Orleans Hornets’ trade of Chris Paul after several owners complained about the league-owned team dealing the All-Star point guard to the Los Angeles Lakers, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Some owners pushed Stern to demand that trade be nullified, and the Hornets be made to keep Paul on the roster for the foreseeable future, sources said. A chorus of owners were irate with the belief that the five-month lockout had happened largely to stop big-market teams from leveraging small-market teams for star players pending free agency.
All the players involved in the trade have been told to report to their teams for the start of training camp on Friday.
Before Stern intervened, the Lakers had reached an agreement to acquire Paul in a three-team trade that would have cost them Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Under terms of the deal, the Lakers would have sent Gasol to the Rockets. The Hornets would have received Odom, Rockets guards Kevin Martin and Goran Dragic and forward Luis Scola, league sources said.
Houston had also agreed to send a 2012 first-round pick – previously obtained from the Knicks – to New Orleans as part of the package, a source said.
Hornets general manager Dell Demps had informed two of the other finalists for Paul on Thursday evening that he had a deal in place for Paul to go the Lakers, front-office sources said.
Paul had listed the Lakers as one of his preferred destinations, and it became a more clear choice for him on Thursday after the New York Knicks moved to the brink of completing a four-year, $58 million contract for free-agent center Tyson Chandler. The Knicks lost the salary-cap space they would’ve needed to sign Paul this summer, and the Lakers had been pushing hard to close a deal for Paul with Houston and New Orleans.
The Lakers could turn their attention toward using center Andrew Bynum as a trading chip to make a play for Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard.
The talent on that team was no where near good enough to compete. They should have been swept based on their roster alone. Going 6 with the defending champions on 1 leg is not impressive to you?
Kill yourself.
again, mixed feelings about the snag, absolutely love cp3 if he can stay healthy
so does it mean CP3 just can't be traded anywhere now because a few owners would be upset wherever he goes?
Now that the Magic know what the Lakers are willing to give up, they should get Pau/Odom. LOLReggieEvans30
@CP3 lol
Was it a good deal in the respect they secured a young star to build around? Yes.
Would it improve their immediate championship window? Hell no.
They would need to wait til Artest, Blake, Walton came off contract in order to secure some other pieces around Paul. By then Kobe would be 35/36. And considering people are talking about how Kobe's old now?
The only way this Paul deal worked for the Lakers is if they had some plans already in place to address PF/C (i.e. Howard).
But you claim already that there was no chance in hell of Bynum+Odom+Filler for Howard+Arenas, how the fuck you think the Lakers are gonna swing Bynum+Bad Contracts for Howard + Hedo/Arenas? If you really believe Bosh > Bynum/Odom like you were so proudly proclaiming a few pages back, that already means there was no chance of that happening.

Oh and once again.
Knicks with Melo. LOL.
Yeah cause the Nuggets losing in the first round shows they the real winners right? Or is it the fact that one of the guys they got is in China, another will be a FA next year, and another plays 10 minutes a game?
The Knicks must be kicking themselves for being an Eastern conference favorite and the Nuggets are clearly winners getting DANILLO FUCKING GALLINARI
(the only worthwhile player on the roster from the melo trade)
Die.
WHO WAS YOUR BACKUP CENTER BEFORE THIS TRADE?
GUYS DON'T MAKE A DEAL FOR ANY SUPERSTARS UNTIL WE FIND A BACKUP CENTER. IT IS IMPERITAVE THAT WE FILL THIS NEED BEFORE WE TRADE FOR ANYONE THAT MAY BE AN MVP FAVORITE NEXT SEASON
Powerforward is the easiest position to fill in the NBA because no one plays center anymore. If you traded for Howard you could literally pick up ANYONE and stick them at the 4.
Favorite? Maybe to finish 5th in the conference with about a .500 record?
They pushed the Thunder far more than the Knicks pushed the Celtics?
Once again: LOL
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.The Knicks must be kicking themselves for being an Eastern conference favorite
If they are, it's cause they got Chandler (who will be overpriced), not because of how much they gave up in the Melo deal. And even then, you aren't going anywhere with Chandler being the only one trying to play D in _'Antoni's system.
Pau played C when Bynum sat, Lamar comes in as PF. Gasol sits and Bynum goes in. Gasol goes in when Lamar sits.WHO WAS YOUR BACKUP CENTER BEFORE THIS TRADE?
Derp derp, why don't you watch a Lakers game before you comment about the impact on rotation.
Once again, you yourself said we could not get Howard with Bynum+Odom+Filler for Howard+Arenas.Powerforward is the easiest position to fill in the NBA because no one plays center anymore. If you traded for Howard you could literally pick up ANYONE and stick them at the 4.
How did you go from believing that would never happen to believing we can do Bynum+Walton/Blake/Artest for Howard+Arenas? Or Bynum for Howard straight up?

The Howard deal can happen because THATS WHERE HE WANTS TO PLAY. Bynum may be the best player they can get if the Nets don't pony up Lopez, and if they do, YOU WEREN'T GOING TO GET HOWARD ANYWAY - regardless if you had traded for Paul or not.
What this does is allow Kobe to save his knees and not have to carry the entire offense alone. If you think Kobe is old now, imagine how he'd look in a couple years with no perimeter play makers to help him out and no triangle. LOL
love how haters loved to point out how kobe broke the triangle all the time, and now they are saying he's gonna just collapse because there's no more triangle
