We finished 2nd in the conference the year before the emergence Chandler, the emergence of Barea, (Although Stevenson and Bulter came over at the deadline). I wouldn't drop us all the way to 7th. We've finished higher with less. Oh wait, I forgot this is Dimmy I'm talking to. Let me guess, the Mavs will finish last in the division just because it's a Dallas team! Amirite?!

Can you fit any more words into my mouth? I'm sure you'll try. All teams healthy, we are better than 7th is all that you can deduce from my statement. I would say top 5 for certain. Top 3 if all else stays as is (i.e. No more FA moves).

Except they didn't lose Dirk. Mavs have had ~11 50 win seasons in a row, only constant there is Dirk.

As the teams are right now (before the Lakers make another move, if they aren't just salary dumping), the Mavs are 2nd best team in the West behind OKC.

They are worse defensively, but Haywood is not a slouch there. Chandler's biggest assets were vocal communication on defense and lockeroom leadership.

Mavs are actually deeper and more versatile on their bench now than last year. They still need another center to backup Haywood, will probably trade Brewer or Fernandez for more depth there before the season starts.

Actually having a backup to Dirk as good as Odom, which the Mavs have never really had, is going to be huge in this short season. Usually (definitely in last years playoffs) when Dirk had to sit for rest the Mavs would get behind 10-12 points before he came back in - it allows him to play less minutes throughout the season too.

Because record doesn't mean shit given that something can happen between the playoffs and the season to affect the quality of the team, and also because the playoffs are different types of games.

Plus there's pacing/luck to consider. The Mav's got red hot against the Lakers and that helped them a lot. Not that it excuses LA's fail, just that things like that render record useless as a predictor. That's why we actually play the playoffs and not just have a race to the best record.

I know all of this. You dont have to explain it to a Spurs fan. What I've been saying is that Mavs team is no more. Just because they won LAST year doesn't mean shit now. You seriously cant say they are favorites based on how they did last year, ESPECIALLY if that team is drastically different now(VINCE CARTER)

This is my first NBA fantasy league, and I'm excited to lose in horrible ways.
