crawford kills me having batum on my other team![]()
crawford to R.I.P. city? 2 months until he has no knees or ankles
So this is my first NBA fantasy league, kills me that I had to auto-pick while at work, just looking forward to having fun and having a reason to enjoy that tuesday night raptors/timberwolves game....
I got a bunch of questions though, not familiar with espn's fantasy set up, having a little trouble viewing players schedules for the upcoming week or w/e and so forth. Anyone got any down and dirty tips?
incoming multi-edit:
1st question: I see that I compete against another person in the league for a full week, not a single day - is my lineup set for the whole week, or can I change it daily?
2nd: 10 starters, 3 bench. I presume all 10 of the starters points count, and none of the 3 bench's count. Can I move people in and out freely from day to day, or is there a limit per week?
Those two questions are trying to figure out if I should attempt to micro-manage my team every day to sit players not playing games and play even scrubs over A-list players on an off day.
Anyone else as disgusted as I am with all the shenanigans from Stern regarding the Paul trade? And here I thought boxing was fixed lol.
I really hope CP3 just walks after the 2 years and goes down the hall to the Lakers, cause of the amount of bullshit that happened here. The Lakers trade seemed fine to me, and the amount of shit they wanted from the Clippers for him was stupid. I really hope the NBA isn't allowed to make decisions on trades ever again.
That's what I mean. This wasn't stupid. It was a blatant abuse of power and a massive conflict of interest. I am shocked that the other owners haven't stood up and cried foul. An NBA comissioner involving himself in the fate of a star player and the returns involved is beyond asinine.
Short of a lawsuit or a court order I would expect this to happen again in the future.I really hope the NBA isn't allowed to make decide on trades ever again.
Only a small minority of owners would have an issue with this trade though. The other teams either realize they had no real way of landing him right this moment(Mavs for example, not much to offer atm although they have the space for him), or were teams he specifically said he didn't want to go(small market teams). That targets the majority of the teams atm, so while I'm sure the Lakers and Rockets are livid over this whole fiasco, the other shitty teams like the Bobcats are sitting their like Mr. Burns thinking they made their statement.
Is he allowed to change his mind and opt out after this season? Or does he specifically have to sign something saying he won't opt out? Cause if not, he needs to either make them force a trade or opt out to fuck over the league before the deadline.
The trade was made with no restrictions. The differences with the new CBA are still confusing, but my understanding is that Paul can sign for up to 2 more years at a ridiculous rate, like 20-24m or something, and then becomes a free agent and can resign. However, he will become a free agent, he is actually prevented from signing a longer deal. I think....
The main thing is just to set your roster's ahead of time so you can accumulate as many stats as possible.
You can change it daily. I usually set my line-ups a week in advance, going through each day and making sure guys aren't on the bench when they have games.incoming multi-edit:

No limit on moving players in and out of your line-up. There is a limit on free agent adds per week but it is hard to reach.2nd: 10 starters, 3 bench. I presume all 10 of the starters points count, and none of the 3 bench's count. Can I move people in and out freely from day to day, or is there a limit per week?
The only way playing a guy can "hurt" you is with bad FG% or FT%, so there is usually no reason to leave a scrub on the bench if he has a game that day and you have an opening in your starting line-up.Those two questions are trying to figure out if I should attempt to micro-manage my team every day to sit players not playing games and play even scrubs over A-list players on an off day.
i'm not going to defend the veto because imo i kinda feel like doing such things sets a bad precedent (i think moral hazard is the term i'm looking for? i'm not sure).
however, the point of the veto in the first place was that it didn't fulfill the goals of the league-owned hornets, which was specifically to save money and accumulate young talent. the original laker trade didn't do that. the league desperately wants to sell the team and the chances of that happening aren't helped with the team being an expensive and barren wasteland. getting two players over 30 while the "young" talent in kevin martin is 26 while taking on salary is the exact opposite of what they wanted to do. so, no, the trade wasn't fine, yet still people seem to believe that it was a fair deal.
btw for people who are unclear about the cp3 trade:
the deal was contingent upon cp3 exercising his player option for the final year, which will pay him something like 17 million the season after this. cp3 expressed his desire to play for the clippers (his original list being the lakers/knicks/clippers and perhaps orlando), and exercised his option giving them the green light to make the trade. had he said no, none of this would have happened.
well you can either swallow that pitch of Stern's wholesale, or you can consider two dozen other possibilities, such as maybe he wanted to keep Paul and was surprised by the overwhelming backlash over the veto, and this was a safeface of some sort and guard against a legal mess Paul and the NBPA were said to be preparing to bring
i don't consider myself a conspiracy theorist or even much of a pessimist, but this whole lockout and everything afterwards have led me to seriously question the league's credibility... and i'm amused by how the type who likes to consider himself smarter than everybody else around wouldn't take this with even the tiniest sprinkle of salt
Better? Yes.
What's lost in all this is the fact that they got worse just by the proposed trade because they lost the reigning 6th man of the year. This is like worse case scenario for them. It's Dwight or bust at this point.
Dude Odom is old and not a top-5 PF, no one wanted him with Bynum in a trade cuz he's not good.
