Had to show this video if only to show that Rinoa can do that >.>.
Not the best use of Rinoa, Angel Wing + Meteor manipulation is more effective, don't believe it's as much damage/turn but with Haste + Angel Wing her ATB fills up so fast she can get in multiple turns in a row, not to mention it's guaranteed whereas her using Wishing Star is a gamble.

Also proper use of Zell puts everyone else to shame.

They should bring that back or at least update it to allow for more players/online co-op. What do you guys think?
FFIX didn't have multiplayer, CC did and did allow online but not many played the CC series. Multiplayer is dumb for final fantasy numbered series, since the focus is around story and turned based combat. Again there is not only one but two MMOs in the series, we don't need anymore.

Also 8 had the most broken combat and shit. It is the epitome of when SE didn't give a shit about balance for the most part.

Does FF9 actually have multiplayer in battle? I'll be happy if it does because the other day me and this chick decided we're gonna play through it because she never has and it'll be far less boring if we can both control 2 characters in battle.

Yea go into the controller config stuff and you can assign chars to controller 2.

I guess they only really thought of it for IX since it was the only modern FF with an even number of party members.

What the shit. Well can we pretend that IX didn't have multiplayer then since it was pointless.

Yeah I don't really count that as true multiplayer. I was just curious though because it'll make it easier than sitting around watching someone play through a game I've played so many times already lol.

I'm a bit late, but the summons in FFX were super handy in some fights. Yunelesca for example, my first play-through I went in almost too unprepared and the only way I managed to beat her was summoning Ifrit/Shiva/Ixion and having them cast the corresponding elemental spells to heal themselves, attacking every other turn, and than waiting for the overdrive bar to fill up. Kinda cheap, but super handy. This was way before I played FFXI and knew what true level grinding hell was (I played through the lolDrg days trying to get it to 75 >_>). Now, grinding for levels in offline games is ridiculously easy in comparison, lol

Take it with a grain of salt:

    http://www.next-gen.biz/news/final-f...-be-action-rpg
Final Fantasy XV could be an action-RPG
Yoshinori Kitase tells us the shift in RPG players' tastes is "a trend…you ignore at your peril."

Yoshinori Kitase, producer of Final Fantasy XIII-2, has hinted that the next iteration of Final Fantasy could see it drift away from its turn-based roots and be an action-RPG.

In an interview, Kitane told us that the increasing popularity of action-RPGs compared to their turn-based equivalents represented "a trend…you ignore at your peril."

"I think the nature of the franchise is to present something new each time," Kitase said. "In the global market we see many players moving away from games that used turn-based systems toward what you might term an action-RPG.

"That's a trend, and you ignore things like that at your peril."

Kitase went on to say that changes introduced in Final Fantasy XIII showed that the series was moving forward with each iteration - but left the door wide open for more subtantial changes to be made in the next full game in the series.

"FFXIII and FFXIII-2's battle systems have those elements of speed and action that are the key words for us, though that doesn't necessarily mean we're going to stick to the same route in our next game," he said. "That's something only time can tell."

Despite its long history as a turn-based RPG, it wouldn’t be too surprising were Square Enix to take the Final Fantasy series in a new direction. While five million copies of 2009's Final Fantasy XIII were shipped worldwide, the online RPG Final Fantasy XIV has had a dismal time of it since its launch in September 2010.

Last December, Square Enix announced a delay to the PS3 version of the game following the PC release's dismal reception. CEO Yoichi Wada offered the company's "sincerest apologies"; producer Hiromichi Tanaka stood down, and was replaced by Naoki Yoshida; the dev team was reshuffled; and the free trial period was extended indefinitely.

In September, Wada conceded: "The Final Fantasy brand has been greatly damaged," and confirmed that the team was "basically fully redoing the game." Further evidence that the publisher recognises the need for change came from senior executive officer Koji Taguchi, who said in June that Square Enix's "decline in Japanese titles [shown at E3] was almost humiliating." Just one game of Japanese origin was shown at the conference: Final Fantasy XIII-2.

    Action RPG - Noooo!

I thought that's what spin offs like Type-0 and Versus XIII are for.

Though we'll have to see how well it goes.

I don't dislike ARPGs but I definitely don't want to see turned based RPGs go away.

On a similar note - Square Enix returns to Unreal Engine.

Interesting. Maybe they are planning "The Last Remnant 2" (or maybe not). Maybe they'll try using Unreal for FFXV too. They did say using the Unreal Engine cut development time significantly and it did work out well at least for the PC version.

I am disappointed about one thing with SE using the Unreal Engine - it can made hard to mod (even changing music in game is hard). (Also I'm assuming they might as well make PC versions of whatever game they're doing on the Unreal Engine right?)

Pretty sure they won't go to action rpg for the main numbered series, thats what versus is for. Guess they're going to make another bad side game like IU and TLR with unreal. Crystal Tools is a amazing engine I figure they will only use it for more of there series titles though because of development times.

I definitely think they should try a few more things with turn based (turn based including Active Time Battle type battle systems).

IMO I think they should possibly try something like FFXII's gameplay again. Isn't Xenoblade similar to FFXII in terms of gameplay (what are the major differences?).

If they do something like FFXII - add in weapon skills, make it less grindy *(that is no rare monsters with low drop rates like FFXI >.>. Go with 100% drop rate or something more reasonable than the 1% they were doing), make bosses really hard, etc.

    *
    Spoiler: show
A lot of people use the "Zone Out Glitch" to chain rare monsters (grabbing the loot then zoning before the exp gained appears, then respawning the rare monster easily) and obtain the loot. However SE didn't intend for this (they apparently intended you to spend hundreds of hours trying to obtain rare items considering the drop rates >.>). Definitely cut back on things which make the game tedious.

They have several options they could take to make it distinct enough from FFXII even if they use similar battle systems.

Though I do see the appeal of going ARPG route with FF. Might attract more people than the usual JRPG players.

Anyone else have any thoughts on what they should try with the next main series?

I would just like to see character development made deeper, on all levels. That includes the story that helps you identify with the character as well as the skill progression being not-so-linear/predictable but not too open-ended that there isn't a defined party role they excel in.

I felt XII went overboard in the wrong ways with some of those and XIII failed to deliver both of those with any single character. If I never see a sphere grid/license board/crystarium again, it'll be too fucking soon...

If people were fine with FFX where the characters end up being clones except for Yuna's aeons and Rikku's overdrives, I don't see how FFXII made a mistake on that part.
Besides if you didin't like FFXII's open-ended character development that's what the international version is for.

And I beg to differ about FFXIII. Disregarding the fact that the entire cast was far more developed and fleshed out, plot-wise, than most other FFs (Surely you'll realize that most earlier FF casts consisted of the hero, the hero's girlfriend, the hero's best friend and 3-6 filler characters, right?), on a gameplay level the cast had a perfect mix of versatilty and specialization.

You could beat the game with any setup since all party members had access to all roles, yet each character had his/her unique perks, which made them situationally better or worse.
To name a few cases, Lightning and Snow's SENs are equally good, but they play in completely different ways.
The same can be said with Vanille and Hope's SYNs, Vanille and Sazh's SABs, Sazh and Fang's COMs and so forth.

FFX was definitely better than XII in that each characters overdrives did something that others could not do.. and also that Yuna was still unique no matter what. Add to that the fact that overdrives made a huge difference if used right. Rikku is like the ultimate buffer with overdrives.. wakka the ultimate damage, and the others in between of varying uses..

XII had none of that.. quickenings were just damage through and through. and you can't really call Intl version an alternative. its only available to japanese players..

XIII falls somewhere between X and XII i'd say.. full atb abilities aren't all that unique other than Vanille's Death and the fact that not everyone could learn everything meant that it wasn't a pure cookie cutter.. but it still did feel rather generic most of the time

Yep pretty much. It was pretty easy to identify in which class each character excelled in. It may have had too little to customize but I'll take it over XII (not IZJS though).

Action RPG is what they should do if they can't evolve the XIII's battle system and they surely as fuck won't use TLR's system either. Retarded fans need to die in a fire for being against it.

I don't see SE using the Unreal engine for a main FF game. They're making a whole new engine, Luminous, that they're going to use for Versus so I honestly don't see why they wouldn't use it for their main entries.

Couldn't say it better myself. Interesting character plots/storyline and unique abilities instead of this blank slate shit is what the games have been lacking for a long time.

Square Enix Wants To Release A Major Final Fantasy Game Every 1-2 Years

SE wants to release a Final Fantasy every year or two
    By Wesley Yin-Poole Published 21 November, 2011
To follow COD, Assassin's Creed, Battlefield model.

Square Enix wants to launch a new Final Fantasy once every year or two.

This, Final Fantasy producer Yoshinori Kitase told GameReactor, will keep fans interested in the role-playing game series.

"[For] the current generation console[s], Final Fantasy XIII was obviously the first game, and personally I think we took a little too long getting it out," he said.

"When you think of Western AAA titles like Call of Duty, Battlefield, and Assassin's Creed, they seem to work with a lot shorter turnaround - they make a new game in one to two years. That is something we need to follow up, because that seems to be the best way to keep our fans interested and attracted to the franchise."

Final Fantasy 13, which launched in Europe in March 2010, was the first in the series for the current generation of consoles. Final Fantasy 12 launched on PlayStation 2 in Europe on 23rd February 2007.

Kitase admitted Square Enix "learnt a lesson" from the game's long development, and is happier with Final Fantasy XIII-2, which launches early next year after 18 months of development.
    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...ry-year-or-two

If you can make it less "more of the same" like Assassin's Rehash then go ahead. If it's like now, as in mainline FF (or a direct sequel to it), as well as a major spinoff for both console and handheld alternating between each other, dis gon b gud :Q___

Then do the same for KH :/

Watch them pull another Agito and turn FF Versus XIII into FFXV to meet the quota.
