I mean, really. I see people RROD and buy 2-3 Xbox's or PS3s over the course of a console generation and I just think to myself, "Seriously? You know what kind of PC they could have built for all that money?" Even when you buy consoles used, that shit adds up, and once the generation is over all of that money goes to waste. It's not like Microsoft is going to keep making 360 games when the 720 comes out. You know what they will keep making, though? PC games.

You can keep a basic, game-capable computer running for half a decade or more with basic upgrades like a graphics card or an extra stick of RAM every few years. It's not like you need top of the line for damn near anything.

I gotta say I play both evenly but I prefer consoles for the social element. The most fun I've had gaming is sitting down with a group of friends playing Bond, Halo, and Rock Band. Plus all the great drinking games you can work into that style of play. I really enjoy playing online with friends too but it's just not quite the same.

Also sure you can play almost everything on PC but consoles are like the easy button. So they're great for lazy gamers that don't want to worry about driver updates, hardware upgrades, and finding that place to get the emulators and games. Google has made piracy/emulation easier but it's still not idiot proof. PC gaming isn't overly a lot of work but it's just console gaming = go buy console and order game, done.

    console for platforming/sandbox games
pc for rts and first-person (shooter, rpg, action) games

i prefer a controller to mouse+keyboard except in the shootans.
my current favorite setup is playing my ps3 while watching a sc2 stream my pc or having the gamefaqs page open.

Controllers work on PCs, multiple displays, output can go to anything, wireless, etc etc. Only real reason to bother with consoles is exclusives, imo.

If my ps3 dies, i'll gladly buy a new one. Doesn't really matter what the money could get with a pc, because a pc cannot play ps3 only games, which is the entire reason i have one in the first place.

I prefer the simplicity and cost. My pretty average laptop (no pc) cost me £400 or so. Xbox cost £200. Not only that i find installing a game and installment requirements to be a chore. I just want to sit down and play my game and not worry about waiting for it to install or even will my laptop run it which with most new games is a no.

Grew up on console and i have no plans to change.

I prefer PC, but as I'm getting older I usually can't be arsed to sit on a chair behind a desk all the time. I mean, that's what's work for, not my spare time.

So, I have a long HDMI cable hooked up to TV and wireless controller (xbox).

There's a lot possible on PC. Both Wii and PS2 emulation on PC are at a stage where they are actually better than the original consoles.

I'm playing Skyrim now in 720p, ultra spec, 4xAA, 4xAO, ultra shadows, medium decals. 60FPS most of the time, it's beautiful and beyond what any console could show on my TV. Also, gamepad control with force feedback etc.

So, while I own both consoles, I'm pretty sure during next gen I will not buy one.
