Looking for some ideas on where to go for this. I got quoted at like $350 for the first place I looked (an eye doctor.) Seems a bit steep to me. Has anybody tried Shopko or other places that like that?

Fitting or Fighting?
Fitting.... Obv I need these contact lenses.
Get the fitting done at an eye doctor, then go to Sam's Club to buy them.
I know each area of the country will have their own price, but in NW Arkansas the price runs around $100.00 for the whole ordeal and around $30.00 for a single numbered box of disposable lenses.
Well, the people at say a Costco or a Lense Crafters should be licensed Optometrists, or anyone giving a fitting really.
Generally the warehouse stores do have licensed optometrists employed, though I would still recommend going to a normal eye doctor for the actual fitting. You don't have to get the exam done at Costco/Sam's in order to buy contacts from them, you just need to have a valid prescription and a membership to the store. I got my glasses through Sam's and I wasn't too impressed with their eye doctors.
I was fitted a couple years ago at an eye doctor, cost me a couple hundred and they add on to the price if you have astigmatism which was really cool of them.
I ended up using the trial pair they gave me for a week or 2 and went back to glasses. Now, I want to do contacts again but my prescription is expired. I'm afraid i'll have to be fitted again and don't want to pay that since I'll also need to buy a years worth of contacts for a million dollars.
At least I'm insured this time, not that it will make much of a difference.
When it comes to a serious part of your body, in this case eyes - you should shell out the little extra to make sure it's not a fuck-wit messing with them. y'know?
While I agree with it's your body , don't be cheap. 350$ sounds waaay too much JUST for a fitting. I have worn contacts on and off for the past 15 years and my costs varied from eye doctor to eye doctor. 75$-100$.

three fifty is absurd.
I just got fitted for $75. Or maybe $100. Total was $145 with three month supply of disposables contacts and tax.
I know I could have gotten the contacts cheaper online, and usually wouldn't get them from the store, but the exam was so cheap I felt obligated to buy the lenses there.
I don't recall ever paying more than $150 for an exam. Which is why $350 sounds so absurd to me.
Maybe they are including the price of a year's worth of expensive lenses as well? In that case, that price makes sense, but you could save some money getting the lenses separately, online.
hope it's with a good supply included, $350 is crazy... and why you call it fitting? O.o I was confused at first as to what he was asking
Yeah, 350 is crazy. Without insurance, contact fitting was about 100 bucks.
You're paying too much. My optometrist, without vision insurance, my annual exam including the super neato retinal imaging they do because I'm a bitch that doesn't like to unnecessarily have my eyes dilated, so I pay $25 more, is around $150 for the exam and the contacts are about $70 for six months.
Makes me glad to be in the UK reading this thread. I first tried contacts when i was 16 and the fitting was free and i got a free pair with that. Didn't like them so went back to glasses. Fast forward 4ish years i decided to i wanted to try em again, another freebie. Although i will say the cost of the contacts is fairly expensive. Fucking astigmatism.
I'm inclined towards Walmart/Sam's Club because of better prices. I suppose I was looking for genuine reasons as to why the optometrists at those places would provide different service than those at other locations (i.e. 'cause it's Walmart/Shopko' isn't an actual reason for anything, just conjecture).
Yeah I'd say Costco or Walsmart for the fitting then you can shop around for the contacts.
I paid $75 for my contact lens exam, lucky I have insurance to cover eyeglasses. Make sure your test pair is comfortable, I have astigmatism and had to pay extra for my contacts. My eyes constantly dry out so i need eyedrops when I wear them (maybe they would be better if I wore them more often.) My friend also suggests walmart or sears, she finds that cheaper contacts are more comfortable than the more expensive ones, go figure.
