I think it might just be that point in the season where I can ask: What's good? What are the shows that everyone and their mother is watching? My internet is too shitty to just watch everything, cause I usually have to let a video buffer for like 10 minutes in order to get a non-skipping stream, so I try to see what's good before I commit to anything (downloading isn't really an option either).
I'm not sure I actually watched anything last season that wasn't continued from the season before, so any input on stuff from last season would be much appreciated as well.
I'm not sure there are many "winners" this season, depending on the genres you like. Nisemonogatari and Chihayafuru are basically the best this season, at least to me. I'm watching a few others (Guilty Crown, Moretsu Pirates, Rinne no Lagrange, Black Rock Shooter, Symphogear), but I'm not sure I'd recommend them after this season.
What are you looking for? Anything? Mindless action? Serious story? Artsy? fanservice?
Chihayafuru is probably one of the best emotional anime that is airing right now. Definitively worth a try, unless you can't stand shojo, but even then, it would be a good start to change your opinion of the genre.
Un-go was great detective drama/mysteries last season. The beginning was slow, but it picked up after 5-6 episodes.
Penguindrum is great a romance with ton of nonsensical symbolism and great animation.
Guilty Crown if you want a train wreck version of Code Geass (which was already considered a train wreck by some)
"Another" is a great horror/mysteries so far. The gore is a little forced imo, but the anime is beautiful, and it's a fun watch every week.
Rinne no Lagrange and Mouretsu Pirate are great action show so far. Both are incredibly well animated.
Nisemonogatari if you liked bakemonogatari, and/or want pedo fanservice (with awesome dialogues).
Nise 8.. that was better than I could have hoped for...
My body was not ready for Nisemonogatari 8....holy...
Oh my god @ Nise 8. That was just not what I could have prepared for.
So nobody is watching Inu x Boku? xd
I watch it, its pretty nice. No major action or suspense, its definitely a comedy with some romance. i say watch some eps and see if ya like it, i do.
Am I the only one who doesn't like love love the -gatari series? I mean they weren't bad but meh. I didn't watch Nise though, guess I'll go download some episodes and see how it is.
Hmm...I loved Katanagatari. It's easily one of my favorite show for its dialogue, style, character, and story. It's had its lengths at time, but nothing I couldn't forgive.
Bakemonogatari/Nisemonogatari on the other hand...I like them, but they are nowhere near the top. The fanservice is killing it me for it, even if the fast paced dialogue are still great most of the time.
I love all the -gatari series mostly for the interesting dialogue, characters and art style. While I don't watch it for the fanservice I couldn't imagine the show without it, it just seems so integral.
I'd say it's worth watching just to see if you love it or hate it and just go from there. It's not for everyone and a lot of people take different things away from watching it, but I'd say it's definitely worth watching just to find out.
If anyone isn't watching Aquarion EVOL and enjoy shows that aren't so serious, but very entertaining, check it out.
Really underrated; it fixes a lot of the problems that Genesis of Aquarion had and definitely executes the "we don't take ourselves seriously at all" concept very well. And it's 26 (I think, definitely 2cour) episodes, too.
Genesis of Aquarion had such an amazing OP I added it and EVOL to my backlog.
Sometimes I wish I never got addicted to anime, first it was stupid shit like DBZ, Naruto and Bleach, but now it's evolved into this hobby wherein I collect names of shit I want to watch when my time isn't completely consumed by what I'm currently watching.
I never actually watched GoA. I'm watching it on campus in between classes now. God bless a 3 hour break inbetween 2 classes. Best way to clear out my backlog in years.
Yeah, I always loved that OP![]()
The first 8 eps of Bakemonogatari are far and away the strongest, and it's probably because the fanservice is at a low hum long enough to get out of the way of telling the stories of Hachikuji/Kanbaru/Senjogahara. I was actually disappointed that the fanservice got dialed up to a constant throb felt throughout the second half of that series + all of Nisemonogatari.
I can't imagine nise without 'fanservice'. It's like it was meant to be animated this way and it would just be wrong without it. It'd be like watching HSotD without tits.
Everything involving Kaiki had no fanservice, and they were some of the best skits this season. It's not that hard to "imagine" what it would be like when we already have example.
Like Correction said, the first 8 episodes were pretty tame compared to what we're getting now. They could easily go back to that format.
