I love the tsundere archtype... but I hated taiga.

That's weird. It's usually the other way around. I thought Toradora was much better than most shows featuring a tsundere main. I personally really liked Taiga's evolution as a character over the course of the series and how the series ended. Need to get my hands on that OAV...

Same for me. I liked Taiga more than most tsundere leads, especially since she had a personality outside of being a tsundere.

Watched both the Hadena and CoalGuys subs for the OVA. As expected CoalGuys was the better but Hadena wasn't as terrible as everyone makes it out to be: they got pretty much everything right and there no glaring mistakes or anything.

Same for me. I liked Taiga more than most tsundere leads, especially since she had a personality outside of being a tsundere.

I don't remember the exact reasons anymore.. I think it's just that she was a whiny bitch and that her doing so was causing pain for the other two girls who I think would have been a better match. Had Ami not existed, and Minori not liked Ryuuji/Not been a good match for Ryuugi then I would probably have liked it. But her personality, her inability to see how she was causing her friends pain, how she was unable to see that her friends liked the guy.. it just pissed me off so much that no amount of tsundere could alter my rage.

In the end, Ami, Minori, and Yasuko pretty much forced Taiga and Ryuji to hook up, because thing had to move eventually, and they were probably the closest two.

At least, that's what I got from it, and why I love the whole cast.

Pretty much this, they were all aware but just scared/worried about making a move.

Taiga is a good character and hardly whiny or aggressive for no good reason, and Ryuuji has a backbone when dealing with her so the relationship isn't totally 1-sided and annoying. In the end Taiga changed for the better and is one of the few tsunderes I like (behind the godlike Senjougahara).

I never thought of Senjougahara has a tsundere character, even if she call herself like that (which is self-contradictory considering they are supposed to hide their feeling). Her violent and sadic side are trait you often see, but I don't think that's what define the archetype.

Not that it really matter what she is, I hate these otaku labels.

She has enough tsun qualities to be considered one, but she's not a typical character so labeling her is hard. The main issue is her hot and cold relationship with Araragi, which, while always close varies from time to time with intensity.

Her warmth always has a hint of aggressiveness, and her coldness has a strange coolness to it. She doesn't hide her feelings appropriately (even her declaration of love seems twisted) and there's always the feeling she's playing games/toying with Araragi. I get the feeling she's hiding somethings about the way she feels and letting Araragi know what he obviously likes about her, which is deceptive in a non-typical way.

That's sort of what happened.. but definitely not the way I saw it. Ami knew that Ryuuji liked Minori and decided to bro out, feeling that having them as friends was enough. Minori knew that Taiga liked Ryuuji and decided to sacrifice her love so that Taiga could be happy. Meanwhile Taiga continues trying to help Ryuuji attempt to get together with Minori, refusing to accept that she likes him.

It's because she used her best friend as a scapegoat for her tsundere that I hate her. She wasn't just someone who couldn't admit that she liked a guy. She was someone who couldn't admit that she liked him and kept causing pain to her other two friends who also liked the guy by doing so.

What Minori was doing was similar, except that she knew she liked him but choose to let her best friend have the guy she likes because Taiga was hopeless. Minori had her retarded moments, like the shit she pulled at the play by not telling Ryuuji about Taiga's dad properly. Taiga was pulling stuff every episode that caused me to rage, while Minori was limited to just that one time (I think there might have been another though..)

I can't remember the specifics anymore though, since it's been quite a while since I watched it. The correct choice is Ami > Minori > Taiga though. But my personal bias skews Minori to first.
