Well, that was a decent first episode. Has enough unique aspects that I'll keep watching at least a bit longer to see where it goes, but I'm not really feeling it so far. Just doesn't look like the type of show I enjoy but I will give it the chance it deserve.

Rurouni Kenshin Manga Series to Return in Japan in May

Manga creator Nobuhiro Watsuki will be resuming his Rurouni Kenshin series for a brief run starting in the June issue of Shueisha's Jump Square magazine, which will ship on May 2, 2012. The magazine's advertising describes the samurai manga's return as a "reboot," although the magazine may not be using the term with the English denotation in mind. More details will be in upcoming issues of Jump Square.

oh man.. I was reading through several of the chapters of Upotte ... what a strange anime it will be... presuming it will have some more interesting ecchi then what was in the manga though considering the artist (looks very much like) one that did many past ecchi animes

Poor Watsuki though, I assume he finally realized it's the only thing he's written that anyone's given more than 2 shits about. I wonder if it will pick up with Kenshin's son or if it will explore things that happened before the series ended. It doesn't need an American-type 'reboot', that's for sure, but a continuation would be fun.

Really? I thought it was very interesting (the anime adaptation in the OAV sucked obviously). I mean

a samurai who can sense life force being fooled by a doll

was kind of retarded, but otherwise the revenge arc was pretty good imo, Enishi's character was different from villians we've seen before and so were his motives. He was the only major character aside from the Shinsengumi that Kenshin had that long of a history with, and that was really interesting. I'd like it if they considered the eps after Kyoto arc to be filler (well, they were) and picked up where they left off and animate the jinchuu arc. But they prolly won't.

The finale with the 4 chinese quadruplet felt really dumb to me, and the rogue gallery before that wasn't too hot either, I mean the whole retard from kyoto arc turning out to be a mech was one of the facepalm moment for me. Comparing them with the Juppongatana in Kyoto arc makes is pretty obvious how much the quality went down since then.

Problem is there can only be one Kyoto arc. I guess when you compare the first part and the last part of the series to Kyoto arc, it all seems dumb and weak. It's truly the best thing he ever wrote which is why only that part is getting the remake D: Kyoto had great villians and the best boss villian, they were unique and interesting and more human than the previous villians in the manga. It started with what's considered one of the best fights in anime history, Saitou vs Kenshin, introduced a lot of Kenshin's past and his awesome as fuck master Hiko, showed the care that grew between Kenshin and Kaoru, and generally went balls-out with fights and character development.

If I had written it, I would feel incredibly daunted to write something its equal, or even better than it. I wonder if he felt the same way and that's why since then everything has been weak. When you see this shining pinnacle of your brainchild and you think 'well, that's it, I don't think I can do better than this' you automatically start settling for worse.

I wonder how the live-action movie is coming along.
